cats can safely be neutered as soon as they weigh 2 lbs. This is so that it is safe for them to go under general anesthesia.

IMO the IDEAL age for speying/neutering is 5-6 months old.
THere are cases when earlier spey/neuter may be ideal, however. Such as 2 kittens of mixed genders (females CAN in rare cases get preggo as early as 4 months, and males can in rare cases be fertile at 5). Feral cats should be sterilized ASAP and released because you never know if you're going to be able to "trap" them at the right age.

So I'd suggeset you go for 5-6 months. Keep in mind that most family vets prefer to do it at 6 months. That should be fine.

IMPORTANT: males should be neutered before they turn 7 months old, this is to guarantee that they will not spray.

Kittens can be neutered at 8wks and 2lbs (which ever comes later). Check with your vet for their recommendation on when to have him neutered. Diffrent vets like to do it at diffrent ages.
