i was away for a week visiting my dad. when i came home i found that my apartment was broken into. they took my 30/30 winchester, nikon n75, dvd player and a bunch of dvds. i called the police and they said they would most likely recover the rifle. what are the odds of them finding a regestered rifle? i would like to have everything back, but the rifle most of all.

Sorry to hear that. But it's true, more than likely, your property is gone for good. The gun may turn up as more and more people do the right thing. But your electronics and DVD's...unless you have the serial number from the player, are gone. Even if you find it, and you KNOW it's yours, how do you prove it?

Check your local pawn shops for the gun, with a copy of your police report. That way if you find it, you have your proof. Police are ALWAYS checking guns.

Well good luck with that. In my experience, the police rarely recover stolen property and don't do much to do so. I've had police say to me, "Why do you care? Aren't you insured?"

Sorry.

Maybe the rifle is different because if they bring it to a pawn shop, the shop owner has to check the registration number and will see it is stolen.
