Hi Deb,,sorry about kitty's eye probs.

That's not an unusual condition.

I agree 100% with applying Neosporin ointment,,or a generic equivalent "triple antibiotic ointment".

That's the correct course of treatment.

Neosporin makes an actual Opthalmic-Use labelled product.
It's Terribly expensive and available by prescription only.

The difference is merely "extra sterile".

If we can apply plain Neosporin directly to open wounds/Bloodstream,,,how much more sterile does it need to be?
I've used it for many years,,,it's safe in eyes.

The antibiotics in Neosporin are wide-range,,,older drugs.
Well proven to be effective in every bacterial Eye infection cats are known to get.

It's commonly prescribed for Cats,,,it is No Home Remedy.

Washing the area seems nice,,,but not necessary.
If you MUST,,be extremely gentle.
Dont "scrub" whatsoever,,,,or try to get it totally clean.

Best is to simply dab a blob of ointment onto the area,,,and gently smear it in a wide circle.
You dont want to Rub It In,,,but only to distrubute it On and Around the eye.

Do it at least twice a day.
It will take 24~36 hours before you see any noticeable results.
Kitty's eye may not open for 2~3 days,,possibly 4.

The Ointment Moisturizes the dried ooze, and the tissue.

It May prompt Momma Cat to groom the area.
That's Ok,,,,it's harmless to both Mom & Baby to do that.
Actually it's probably beneficial to Both.

If she does groom the kitten's eye/face,,,,You will want to apply the ointment as often as possible,,3~4 times daily & keep mom away for an hour or so to allow absortion of the antibiotics

You need a more aggresive approach than mere wash/soak/clean.

Use Neosporin or equivalent.
That's the correct medication to use,,,,as it will treat any type of bacteria that may be troubling Kitty

Single or Dual ingredient preparations may not.
And there's no way to know Which single antibiotic is appropriate ,,without a lab culture to identify the specific bacteria..

One Major Caution: Never use anything containing Cortisone/Steroids in Eye Infections.

Cats also Do get Herpes Virus eye infections,,,
antibiotics are useless in those instances.
It's a whole 'nother story.

In Herpes infections,,,It USUALLY infects Both eyes,,,and most likely All the cats would have it & be displaying similar symptons.

Good Luck,,hope everything works out fine.
Congrats on the new kittens!

I have six new kittens, they are 10 days old, one of them had one eye stuck shut. After reading these post I tried a triple antibiotic ointment on it and the next day it was open. I did not try to wash the area, I just dabbed a bit of the ointment over the closed eye. I would try this before bringing the kitten to the vets if the eye is not oozing puss.

Try the teabag idea, just make sure it's warm not hot when you get the crusties off.

If it continues, get some Terramycin or another antibiotic eye ointment from the vet. It's very common in kittens, and if you have more than one, it will likely spread from one kitten to the others. The Terramycin will be worth it in the long run.

I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a spupid one-night stand. I know a lot of girls will say this but I swear – I never did that sort of thing.

I jud made mistake that one timd and, suddenly, it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her you-know-what?

But after a frind share this video http://tinyurl.com/EraseHerpesw everything has changed. Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again.

I even met the man of my dreams and I`m so blessed to write that just last week, in fornt of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the change to be happy, and to experience true love. Now I want to help you share this the world.

Please check with your vet. I found kittens, and 3 of them had a nasty infection, that blinded one in one eye completely. the other 2 have partial sight in that one eye. This was even after I went to the vet and got antibotic cream. I had to go back a week later for stronger stuff, but by then the damage was done. One had surgery to help him see better, and it cost way more than that inital visit. PLEASE go to the vet.

You have to go to the vet, because usually these eye problems indicate an infection which may be more generalised. And the kitten may lose the eye or even die if not treated properly. However, as a first measure, clean the eye with a small cotton with chamomile infusion (not hot) or just sterile water (the one used for IV) and buy some eye drops (Tobrex) that DON'T have cortico-steroids in them, and drop one drop on the eye morning and evening.

Warm wash cloth and then use triple antibiotic ointment on it 2x a day until the infection is gone! Although you don't want to use Neosporin, because some kinds of neosporin contain numbing ingredients, so just buy generic triple antibiotic ointment.

Is there a crust on the eye? You could try gently cleaning it with some warm water. But if there is an infection you really need to seek treatment from a vet.

May be kinda gooed shut. Try washing with a soft cloth and warm water. If that doesn't work, see a vet. Better to spend a little money than have the poor thing lose an eye.
