what's the difference between 'sexually harassed' and 'sexually abused'. i was never too sure about that.

in 'sex ed' at school, they never really talked about those two things. Could someone perhaps explain the difference and give me some examples on each. I just wnat a clear understanding thats all

Sexual Abuse -
1. The forcing of unwanted sexual activity by one person on another, as by the use of threats or coercion.
2. Sexual activity that is deemed improper or harmful, as between an adult and a minor or with a person of diminished mental capacity.


Sexual Harassment

unwelcome sexual advances made by an employer or superior, esp. when compliance is made a condition of continued employment or advancement.

Sexual Harassment has to do with "unwelcome" sexual advances, usually done in a workplace environment, or in another place where people are in contact with one another on a daily basis.

There are two kinds of sexual harassment:

1) "Quid Pro Quo" (Just think "This-for-That" which is what it means...) This kind of harassment means that you maybe offered a raise, or promotion or special treatment at work IF you provide sexual favors in return. (This.... for.... THAT.) It also might be couched in terms of "do this for me OR I'll fire you/give you bad work hours/make you clean toilets, etc...)

2) "Hostile Work Environment" When a person, by sexually suggestive comments or other behavior, makes you uncomfortable doing your job. This could be repeatedly asking for a date, telling dirty jokes, describing one's sexual encounters, or other behavior. People can get in trouble for displaying girlie calendars or naughty pictures even. The standard in this kind of harassment is "would a 'reasonable' person be offended?"

Sexual Abuse is much more simple. Rape, physical contact with a person who does not want it. Especially when that person is coerced, or forced into a sexual act. Not the same as harassment, but potentially a much more (physically) dangerous situation.

Sexual abuse includes, but is not limited to, showing a child pornographic materials, placing the child's hand on another person's genitals, touching a child's genitals, and/or penetration of any orifice of a child's body (mouth, vagina, anus) with a penis, finger, or an object of any sort. Penetration does not have to occur for it to be sexual abuse.

Sexually harrassed is more like if someone were to make sexual comments to you, even after you told them that you did not like for them to do it! Or like if someone was to touch your as s as you walked by....ect.....
Sexually abused is if like someone was to actually touch your privates with your panties off, or to even rape you, or really to do anything that you do not consent to!
