"Text Speak" has been an education for me - I always prided myself on correct grammar and spelling. My teenager has introduced me to texting, it took some time for me to appreciate, but it truly is a time saver and sometimes fun to translate.

Using "short hand" or text/chat in general writing is not the best thing to do. First of all, you are writing so that others can read what you say and not all people use shorthand, and often people are not native English speakers so shorthand for them is even harder. Second, it is wrong, you are not spelling correctly and using numbers for words, this incorrect.

If you want to get better at typing, you need to practice and not take shortcuts.

It's not easy to read and since this isn't text messaging, spelling your words out completely is more appropriate. The brain is trained to read words and understand their meaning, it slows down comprehension when the eye sees "shorthand" then has to translate it into the REAL word you meant so the brain can decipher the meaning of the word. (such as above...Y = why = meaning of the word "why").

Slow down your typing...there are few places in life (school/work) where that short hand will be acceptable anyway, so you might as well learn to do it correctly. ☺☻

I consider using txt when not texting is a bit rude. You are forcing your reader to translate what you mean. This saves you time but takes theirs, which is inconsiderate. Using personal "shorthand" is fine for private notes, but do not expect others to wade through your abbreviations.

Certainly do not expect them to be left with any great respect for your skill as a wordsmith.

Secondly, it is a bar to communication.

Thirdly it makes you sound like a twelve year old and erases any nuance in your argument.

Sorry if this sounds a little judgmental but this is a pet gripe of mine.

You are not using a short hand correctly, your typing in text messaging.

Learning how to write in short hand, is a great skill to put on the resume. Text messaging there is no skill involved.

It's not that I don't understand what is being typed out, I prefer to read complete sentences.
