If so, should I do any upgrades to it if I get it?

Yes, the sound of the pump placing one in the chamber is unmistakable and universally recognizable.

This action alone is a great deterrent towards any predator.

No, that would be a piss poor weapon to use in a confined space like the inside of a home.

First, the best thing for home defense is something that will warn you when someone enters your home: an alarm system that blares when tripped or a dog that loves to bark. If you don't know someone is in your home, then guns won't help you much. As a side benefit, these precautions may scare someone away and that is called PREVENTION, a wonderful thing really.

And always go with a hand gun, MUCH easier to use in confined spaces. Really a .38 revolver is about as good as any other gun for home defense and the gang bangers won't be breaking into your house while your not home to steal it.

Not especially. If you are fixed on a shotgun, get a Benelli with a pistol grip. But i would go with a 45 apc, either a glock or a SIG. But if money is an issue, get a .357 or .38 special revolver.

A gun for home defense is like going to DUI school in case you're arrested one day for DUI.

If your argument is to defend yourself against burglars or intrusion, forget it. Most burglars want an EMPTY house!

If someone forces their way into your home, the last thing you'll be thinking is "I gotta get my gun". They'll be on you like white on rice. How can you defend yourself with the remote in one hand and a beer in the other?

But, if for some reason, someone does enter your home while you're there, and you hear them but they don't know you're there, then racking that shotgun will get their attention.

Excellent as it is.
For defensive purposes I suggest, nothing less than #2 copper plated shot.
Leave the chamber empty, uncocked, the sound when you work the slide has been know to end fights without shooting.
Only fools argue with a 12 ga.

Shotguns are OK, if you have room to turn them. There's nothing like the sound of a shotgun racking a round into the chamber to loosen a burglar's bowels.

I prefer handguns myself, just because I'm well trained in their use and they are better in close quarters, but that's just personal preference.

I would suggest going to the Ordnance Section of the Police Department (after you call and make an appt, of course :) and get advice on what guns are best for your use. They can also advise you about the laws and how best to protect yourself, etc.

it's a good start. I would go with a shorter barrel and maybe add a lighting system and an extra ammo holder to the stock. what are you going to do in a tight hallway??? you might want to look at some handguns.

I don't think so. It is too long to be maneuverable inside confined areas.
You would need a shot gun with a short barrel and short stock, that can carry multiple shells.
Those are probably illegal.

depends on if you have enough room to swing it around...I'd go with a sawed off or a riot gun...racking a round sounds "cool" but keep that thing ready to fire because if you really need it, you want it ready to go
