Though I'm not an atheist(God could exist and I'll believe in them if they show them self to me)

There's many different reasons people believe in god.

The #1 being it's what they were raised and taught with.

Some people believe in God so they don't have to feel bad about doing bad things - they can just ask for forgiveness.

Some people believe in god because they had a hard spot in there life and believing in an all loving supreme helps them through it.

Some people believe in God because when they grow up and become equal to their parents, they need to fill the missing slot.

Some people believe in God because they're tricking them selfs into thinking there's undeniable proof of God's existence.

Many people believe in God to help cope with the end - Death. Religion is the only thing that claims to know the hereafter.

two reason; 1) the persons faith was initialised due to certain events in their lives that have made them believe that God was shining on them, because they believed the changes in their lives were caused by divine intervention.
or 2) they are and always have been Christians, through indoctrination as a child by parents, the church and the education system they were put into, it is the norm' for them, they do not question it, for questioning it would be a sin and they are that brainwashed by the system that they cannot free there conscience enough to have doubt.
3) religions first doctrine is ignorance, thus they never see another perspective, they just walk around as Gods sheep.
4) fear, this is the most relevant when attached to any of the other 3

Because it's easier to deal with your problems when you come to the "realization" that you have no control over your life. "God did it." "I prayed for assistance, and God sent someone to me." "I prayed my mother would live, and God heard me and let her live." Personal responsibility flies out the window. Easy. And some believe just because if they do, they get to go to "heaven" which is so awesome it can't even be described, or so I'm told. As if they're just living to die.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong. That's how I see it.

They were sold on the idea that they need a crutch to function in the real world... Fear of the unknown after dying is the best selling catch! The funny thing is that the believers settle for the crappiest stories about any religion...

I think there are many reasons that individuals would believe. But I think the root is that without a god our existence is mere chance and we have no reason to be alive, we just are. Without a god we are powerless to understand why.

Many believe because they were indoctrinated into one of the world's largest cults at an early age, and frightened into questioning anything about that cult or the Christian god.

Others believe because they sincerely believe that they need a god in order to live day to day, which says a lot about them as people.
