That is, what makes them heretical. I'm curious about this one.

I can guarentee I have more heresies than any group but I like to keep track.

Let's face it. Protestants who tried to call anyone a heretic are in the unenviable stance of being the pot calling the kettle black. Every Protestant sect got its start when somebody decided that he/she had a better idea of what God meant than the church from which they separated. If you call starting your own branch of Christianity a heresy and you're a Protestant, well.... you can see where that leads!

The classic definition of a heretic is a Catholic who professes a belief that is in opposition to authentic Catholic doctrine.

The original protestant reformers were most certainly heretics, but since todays protestants ceased to be Catholic many generations ago, protestants are probably just considered apostate Christians.

Only the Catholic Churches (Eastern and Roman) consider themselves the judges of heresy. Protestant sects do not have such a paternalistic concept.

hmm...i was a protestant christian for a while, and i can't remember anything about heretics.

there was a lot of `don't blaspheme the holy spirit` kind of thing. maybe that would be considered heresy.
