an age

Not entirely forever and ever. If it were than we would still be under old testament laws that were to be established forever and forever among other things.

Jews understood life to be a circle. There is no eternity but only a start of an age and the end of the age. Then a new age begins.

That's why I think it is interesting that God says he is the beginning and the end, of what? An age.

If we were to exist as eternal beings as it is understood today it would be boring. A perfect state of being and timelessness means no progress, no change, no moving, no thought, etc.

The temperature absolute zero is a good example of eternity and perfection.

Christians define and understand the word eternity in the context of 'The Eternity' which is that period of time after the white throne judgment and entails 'world without end' as stated in the scriptures in Isaiah chapter 45 and Ephesians chapter 3.

They don't understand eternity if they even believe that such a thing exists. Everything comes to an end. Everything has a beginning. Infinity, eternity, doesn't make any logical, human being using their brain, type of sense. If you really think about the concept for a good deal of time, you will understand why this idea makes absolutely no sense.

Not necesarrily because I'm a Christian, but eternity to me is timeless, completely devoid of any evidence of time.

Not forever, eternity is without past, present, or future. It is just beyond possible imagination. It is a state of endless posibilities because it is a state without time. The relevance of time when speaking of eternity is about as relevant as asking "about the sexual orientation of the number 5." (A nod to all the "What the @#!$ do we know" fans.

Dangit. I'm not a Christian. Oh heck. I'll answer. Look. He doesn't torture. He sends certain people to a lake of fire but those are like Satan and the anti-Messiah. The rest kind of cease to exist. Look. I'm a parent. Are you? I have certain rules in my house. If my kids break them, they get punished. If you are a kid, don't you get punished? Do you not feel you deserved it? When I would get punished I felt I deserved it. The same goes with God. There are laws/rules for living here. You are to follow them. If you break them, be honest, fess up, and APOLOGIZE (repent). If you DONT APOLOGIZE, then don't you deserve to be punished? Why not, what makes you above the rules here? Any kid in my house that doesn't follow my rules has to get out. I WILL call "the people" and tell them to come get kid A or kid B because they refuse to listen and I will not have them making a mockery of this household! Ditto for Yahweh.

Humans are utterly useless at conceptualising such things. Our internal heirarchy can only deal with 'one' 'two' 'three' and 'many'.

We have no feel for a lightyear or an angstrom. Infinity just translates as 'a very big many'.

time without end
forever and ever
in heaven it would be like happily ever after

we as finite people live in time
God as an infinite being who is uncreated may have created time and in Bethlehem stepped into time, assuming an additional but unfallen nature, a human nature
