Criminals have a society separate from the rest of us. Through connections made either through meetings, jail, prison or friends they find out who deals in what.
A theif unloading stolen goods to a fence will ask questions, the fence has people he deals with to unload the goods he just received and the info about who has some guns available is passed along. Now the thief or friends or anyone who knows them can get access to a gun.
This info travels as far as across entire cities in a matter of a day of stolen guns being made available after being stolen. Since so many either in gangs or otherwise want a gun without a sales receipt the seller does a brisk business inside of 48 hours.
Some weapons are acutally stolen to order. Not necessarily a specific weapon, but if a gang for example wanted 5 guns, then a robbery of a gun dealer, or house hold that has guns is arranged. It is like a regular business, just underground.
Why get guns?? They intimidate more than a fist, people obey a gunman, they feel more powerful and they can get rid of an enemy fast and you don't have to touch them.
The police are trying, but the codes of silence in many neighbourhoods stops the info flow and hinders their efforts. MAny people will not help because of fear, knowing that not one has a gun but 20 do and they'll not all be arrested and may come to get them if they talk.
Yes if the general public informed on criminals and there were better surveillance systems etc then there would be less crime, more arrests and more convictions.
We need more prisons (where they work not exercise), less parole, more proper rehab.

Criminals get guns from all sorts of places. Some are modified from legal guns so they are more deadly. some are smuggled in from countrys where guns are legal to own. some but very few are stolen from authoritys such as the police force and army, this is not very common. The majority of imports does come from countrys where guns are legal. Could be the worst invention ever created by man. They serve no purpose over than killing other people with guns.

yup yup. they're right. criminals are able to get their guns through smuggling and of course, some steal it from the other. it's hard to stop them from getting guns because it is done illegally and also some are buying their guns from someone they already know, and as they use their newly bought/stole gun, it's still under the name of the original owner and those in the authority don't have the lead or trace to tell if the gun is still handled by the real/original owner. bit confusing huh? lol

Apparently it is pretty easy. It's not like they wear a sign on their head that says "I'm a criminal".
