I do! I really love letter writing, but have to be in the right mood. It's also true that I only write letters to friends and relatives who don't have a PC. E-mails, etc., are OK, but when you write a letter to someone it always seems much more personal; I can be reflective and creative and really put over my thoughts and/or details of things that have happened in my life. OK! I know we can do this in an individual e-mail, but actually holding the letter and reading it seems far more satisfying than reading it off a screen, and I know the recipients really appreciate the postman putting that communication through their letter box! (I know I enjoy receiving the replies!). When we've read an e-mail and replied to it, we usually delete it, but some people like to keep letters and find them a source of interest when read at a future time. I have to a admit to being an 'oldie', so in the past, letters were sometimes the only means of keeping in touch with people, so I developed the art of letter writing which has stayed with me. I also enjoy writing anyway - as you can probably tell by the length of my answer!

Yes, yes. I am 56 and was brought up to write letters with pen and ink and ordinary postal delivery. I still do, although I use email with my children and younger friends. But I still get headed notepaper printed, and I use a Mont Blanc fountain pen and ink, and envelopes and stamps. I think I will do this to my dying day. I LOVE getting a handwritten letter (usually from people in my own age group or older). I don't have a mobile phone so I can't text, etc. The telephone at home is usually switched off because we get so many unwanted calls. I really loathe the way so many people rely on their mobile phones for the most inane of calls. I use public telephones.

No... I was feeling a little sad a while ago because of this, too. I might have written one or two letters while I was growing up, but by the time I was mature enough to start writing, we got washed over by e-mail, text and everything electronic.

I was thinking how nice it would be to receive actual words written down by people we miss, instead of just their thoughts in an electronic form.

This year, though, our class has revived the handwritten letter habit a little, simply by making it a custom to give greeting cards, bought or made. Whether we give gifts or not to people celebrating birthdays, or people on the brink of achieving something, we each of us make it a point to give them a card, signed by our own hand. Nice, isn't it? It can be cherished much better than simply a gift.

Yeah, I have 5 penpals in 3 different countries (Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea) and we correspond by letter :)
I think its much more personal than email, plus you can decorate them with cute stickers and stuff lol, and can include gifts in the envelope :)

Why not just write to the head Elephant keeper, and ask if it would be possible for your daughter to get close to an elephant when you visit the zoo on the ?? of ?? this year? He or she is only human. you won't be bitten for asking. Go for it: Be brave. I hope she has a magic day.
