You are the only one who can make that decision. My advice is if you are unhappy with your job you should be on the lookout for a new one. Newspaper ads, internet ads, word of mouth, etc. are all ways you can keep a watch out for a new job. If you find one you think you will like better and compensation is approx the same, give your 2-week notice. Just don't quit your present job until you find another one. ps--I hope you have your presentation done if you are on YA at 2:10 in the a.m.

Try not to worry too much, we've all been there and had crappy jobs! Large stores and resturants will always treat you like dirt and pay you peanuts but it will give you tons of experience so i'd grin and bear it for now if i were you. It would make life easier for you, not them, they won't care if you quit they can replace people very easily, but it wont be so easy for you to find another job and its going to be on your CV for the rest of your life that you quit hollywood bowl after a week when the pressure got too much! Not good
I think they were only angry yesterday because you didn't phone them yourself, you got your boyfriend to phone in. Managers absolutely hate it when employees do that (believe me i know, i've done it myself and got it in the neck at work too!) it makes you look suspicious that your just pulling a sicky and it looks like you dont like talking to them. Phone them up yourself, i know you are poorly but you can still come to the phone, at least they would hear from your voice that you are genuinely sick
As for the money, breaks, and hours you do, that really should have been a question you asked during the interview and considered before you took the job, its too late to complain now. You signed their work contract!
Take this first week as a blip and learn from it, work hard, work your way up, and you'll be out of there soon, you'll be too good for them before long!

Whatever happened to...I need this job, I will continue in my work until I find another one.
If a future employer can see from your CV that you chop and change jobs, are constantly off sick, the impression they would get of you is not very trustworthy.
Personally if I had taken a job.....and by the way im sure you were aware of the hours, rate etc before your started, I would continue in my work, whilst looking for alternative employment. Once I had secured a new job, do the normal, hand in your notice, work your notice period then start your new job.

No matter what, you should ALWAYS phone in yourself, even if you have lost your voice, try and make a noise then pass the phone over to someone (like your boyfriend) and then let them explain.
No employer is impressed with sickness in the first week of a job, even if genuine, as at that time you should be trying to make a good impression still.
Kitchen work is long hours with few breaks, that's the nature of the business, if you don't like it perhaps you should try a new profession? It sounds like you don't like it much.

Sounds horrible, I would quit and look for something better. Waitressing / kitchen jobs (if that's what it was) never pay that well but if you find somewhere that's fun with a good atmosphere and you like the people then that will make up for it. There's usually plenty of places looking for staff so I wouldn't worry too much about leaving this job. If another place asks why say something like - 'there was no opportunity for career development!'

Lets tell the truth, you had your boyfriend call in because you where not sick but wanted to spend time with him or more likely he wanted you to spend time with him and the job got in the way, hence him calling in. Food poisoning old and overused excuse that does not work in today's society, been to the hospital or doctor bet not? If you want to quit then quit just do not make a story about it or look for an excuse

My first thought was that you should quit as fast as possible. However I realise that it really depends if you can easily get another job. If the answer is yes then goodbye to your present employer. If no then start looking and as soon as you have a new job then quit.

Just quit - you can get another job in a similar place really easily. If you want to cover yourself and make sure that you have a job, don't tell them you're quitting until you've started work somewhere else.

I would look for something else!
What is more worrying is the fact that they expected you to go in and work with food despite the fact you were vomiting!
