The people who run the Republican Party have done a very effective job in rallying Christian voters around a few key issues, but If the average Christian voter were to take the time to understand the "Big Picture", they would realize they are supporting much that is contradictory to the true teachings of Jesus???

I disagree with that statement. Most Republicans are white upper class and they do call themselves Christian for the most part, but Christianity as a whole is made up of much more then the white middle class. Democrats are Christian also. they just embrace different issues than the Republicans. Christianity is just as common in the black and Hispanic race which if you add these together outnumber the white middle class Christians and most of them are Democrats.

I believe if you take a poll and ask voters if they are Christian 90 percent will say they are no matter what party they vote for.

look at AL Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, they are both liberal in politics but Christian ministers. They both are far from being Republican they both preach politics in their sermons and both tell their listeners who to vote for..

As far as Jesus I believe he would not vote at all. Many early Christians refused to take part in politics because they were citizens of a heveanly kingdom not human. some religions today like the Jehovah's Witness and the House of Yahweh do not vote or get involved in politics due to trying to follow the pattern of the early Christians and Jesus.

In all truth, if Jesus was the least bit interested in American politics, He would be angered by both Democrats AND Republicans. Both sides act like modern-day Pharisees, with their "holier than thou" attitudes. Liberal Democrat Christians seem to think they're better than the conservative Republican Christians and vice versa: "Oh, they're not REAL Christians" and "Jesus was a liberal" and "No, Jesus was a Republican!" Oh, shut UP already! He would have been neither. Neither are 100% in line with what Jesus taught. The problem with liberal Democrats is that most of them are SOCIALLY liberal, which is NOT in sync with Jesus' teachings. Many Republican politicians, on the other hand, are greedy and hypocritical, which is ALSO not what Jesus taught.

Yet people vote for them! And THEN, they criticize the other side for not doing the same!

A Christian should always vote for a candidate, not a party. If they vote at all, which I TOTALLY understand if they don't.

What we need are candidates who actually do what they say they will. Quit LYING to get elected, and just tell us the truth. Have some INTEGRITY for heaven's sake!

Sorry if this doesn't answer your question directly, but the current political climate in the U.S. angers and worries me. They're all liars.

False premise. The claim that "most Christians are Republican" is unsupported. As an agnostic who has studied religions extensively, I would conclude that Jesus would not vote for Conservatives or Liberals. Jesus would be nonpartisan, as should everyone reading this answer. You are correct in your assertion that the GOP's (and Democrats') policies are contradictory to the teachings of Jesus

We Christians believe that a great leader should be a God fearing man, as stated in the bible. We also believe that God is in absolute control of not just American leaders, but leaders world wide. And whether we like them or not, we are commanded to honor and respect those who have been positioned to rule over us. It mainly comes down to the candidate really not so much the party also, your personal conviction as a Christian. The bible clearly condemns homosexuality and abortion so for a Christian to vote for any candidate that is for abortion and homosexuality is shameful. The bible clearly states that we should either be hot or cold which means that we can't be a follower of Jesus if we approve Gay rights or abortion when He clearly calls it an abomination. Back in Jesus's days, there was no such thing as a Democrat or Republican party. Cesar pretty much ran Rome however he pleased. Although Cesar was an ungodly man, Jesus still commanded his followers to pay taxes to him. I hope this helped.

As usual the present day USA is the one out of step. At different times and in different places the left has been associated with Christianity due to the teachings of Jesus, whether or not he was a real historical figure, the parable of the talents is the only one conservatives can ever point to, there are a hundred talking about the humble and the poor.

There is another strain of authoritarian Christianity which is unfortunately present in the USA which is deeply conservative, that is what you have now.

Because Republicans are actually the Old Testament Party. Think about it. Give a glance through the OT and see if I'm not right once you start noticing the similarities between the Repub agenda and the OT God.

What then should be done about "a few key issues"? I believe religion should not be in the same room as politics, but I also believe that's not going to happen when there are people with firm beliefs in " a few key issues". GOD BLESS this greedy, freedom less, money hungry, totalitarian governing nation......

I'm not a republican. In fact... I really don't like how our government has evolved.... or should I say degenerated. But I will submit to it and even support it with my life if necessary because the USA rocks =D

But Biblically, governments were instituted by God and I am commanded thusly:

Romans 13:1-7: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor."

ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH - - - - would people quit calling Democrats Satanist - - - really, I an so SICK of this Talk that the only people who go to Church are Republicans. People of all Faiths inhabit the Democrat Party while the Republican Party rejects all faiths and gets truly nervous when its membership (see recent fracas) includes non Christians. But a lot of Christians are Liberals and

YES -- - - a liberal such as Jesus would more likely have joined the Democratic Partry rather than the Republican Party....

most chrsitians vote republican because they are against abortions which would be the number one no no in the christian religion. however if they voted liberal they would be voteing for abortion and like i said they would be voteing no no. thats the biggest impact on religion there is really no bigger picture than that when you speak of politics and religion. me i think religion should be left out of politics all together
