I'm sorry to say, but your Dad has been the victim of a long-running scam.

The car was never owned by the 'seller'. Any pictures or description you may have seen will have simply been cut-and-paste from a different advert.

The scammers will usually offer the vehicles at ridiculously low prices, to tempt in the unwary. A car for sale at way below the market value is almost always a scam. Sorry.

I'm afraid your Dad will never receive the car and he has lost his money.

I'm sorry to hear that your dad has been ripped off in this awful way.

The good news is that I'm an eccentric millionaire, and I'm getting rid of my old Rolls Royce, as it's a year old. I can let him have for only $1000, and because your story has touched my heart, I'll even pay the cost of getting it across the Atlantic to you.

Mind you, I'd be grateful if you could send me, say, $500 as a sign of your good intentions. And I don't even need you to use PayPal - cash in an envelope would do.

Hope to hear from you soon.

THIS SCAM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 15 YEARS NOW AND AS FOR ANY OF THE MONIES THAT WERE PAID THEY WILL NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN.

YOU CAN CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE AND FILE A REPORT JUST TO SAY YOU DID BUT NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

THIS IS DONE HUNDREDS OF TIMES EVERYDAY AND IT ALWAYS TURNS OUT THE SAME, THE BUYER GETS HAMMERED.

TALK WITH YOU CPA AND SEE IF YOU CAN GET THE MONEY THAT IS LOST USED AS A TAX RIDE OFF.

GOOD LUCK AND BE MORE CAREFUL.

Over in Australia - the authorities advice when purchasing a car over the Internet to definitely physically test drive the car first - don't just purchase the car without test driving!!!!

Hopefully everything will be fine with your dads car - but I would not advise to do that sort of thing again!!!

I sold one on the internet and everything was ok, you have tyo take certain precautions though, when the guy came up from the south to pick it up we had a great laugh and he very kindly sent a good report in about me. so we are not all bad! hope you get your problem sorted sounds like just a hitch .
Best not to send money up front though.

Who controls the "holding account"? The vendor, I suspect.

Sadly, this is a favourite scam, the vendor disappears with the money and that's it; I hope, however, it will turn up shortly, having been delayed en route.
