The brain is being deprived of oxygen and shutting down. Why do you think there are people who are stupid enough to get high by choking themselves? It produces a state of euphoria. You feel no pain because your nervous system shuts down first in an effort to conserve the oxygen the brain has left. So that's why many will often drift off to sleep, then die. You always here of people who have had a near death experience seeing a 'light' and an overwhelming calmness, and no more pain. Never have I heard anyone say they were looking into darkness, or a fiery pit, and then describe terrible pain.

Unfortunately Yes, that's how some people look at life. They turn God away time and time again and then when he is the last hope they grasp onto him. People also say if God is supposed to be a loving God then he wouldn't leave the ones he loves. Even after living a Godless life and continuing to turn away from him they think they deserve to be saved by him. The point is if you don't want to know and believe in God then that's your choice, but don't blame him when he only saves the ones he knows, the ones that have relationships with him, and the ones who love him. Yes he does love everyone but if you don't love him then why is there a need for him to save you? That's like asking somebody who just beat you up for the tenth time to care for your wounds. Probably not going to happen. GOD BLESS!!

It's human nature. In the face of extreme or certain peril, man will do ANYTHING to escape death's grasp.
It is not a sudden change of heart, but rather a desperate plea or bargain.
"If you save me, I will go to church every day!"
Sound familiar? Let's explore that example. The hypothetical man's prayer is a deal he's bartering to God. His going to church is contingent upon whether or not God saves him, hence the "if." As such, while this is still technically a prayer (a prayer is any and all dialogue with God), it's really, more technically, a trade negotiation. The man's church attendance for preservation of life.
So... it's not so much that man necessarily becomes "spiritual" in the face of death, but rather the primordial urge to stay alive.

God is a good , and a moral God, And does not have an ego problem. Anyone who has led a good life, and has contributed positively to the betterment of humanity, has nothing to fear, from this just and good God.. One may not agree with, some of the current defintions of God, and still live a good life and be spiritual.

That is the Christian equivalent of an "urban legend"Possibly some "non-religious would do that.No actual atheist would.Been faced with death many times.Never occurred to Me to call out to some invisible dude to help.I was too busy in the real world trying to survive.Really,that is simply propaganda,that Christians either knowingly or unknowingly spread,without actually checking into it.I REALLY doubt any true atheist would do such a thing

No, it's not an "innate spiritual side"; people simply fear their own mortality.
And when you say "some" non-believers, I assume you mean "a rare few", as I've never met a non-believer who called out to any god when they felt their life was in danger.
In fact, I'M a non-believer who didn't call out to any god when my life was in danger.

When staring death in the face there are two choices, accept it or fight for life, in some cases there is no hope, so God would be a final resort. After all if he exists, he'll save the people he claims to love, wouldn't he?

Because as an unbeliever, they are faced with uncertainty, while the believer can say as did David in Psalm 23:4:
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

thats a good question and i do see a lot of ppl do that who don't pray or believe strongly in god etc. i think ppl jus want 'help' from god when they need it and jus ignore god when everything going fine in life. thats being selfish and ignorant and i really don't like ppl like that, i think god everyday that i have food to eat, clean clothes to wear and a good education cos i know there are a lot of ppl who aren't as lucky. it's the little things in life that count
