This covers practical setup issues that the manual doesn't cover. I think it's a must read!

Heed the point about setting your camera to the Program setting and setting the exposure compensation. The D40 light metering is really bad which makes the Auto mode nearly useless. Everything else about the camera is great.

Spend a few evenings going through Ken's guide, making sure you understand everything. Film is cheap, so experiment. A month later, go through this guide again to refresh your mind. There's a lot to learn about any digital camera. Remember, this guide is the way Ken likes to set up his camera. You may find that your preferences don't agree with his which is perfectly fine.
