over and over again?
Seriously, look at any random question about christianity or the Bible and you will see the same standard atheist answers constantly
its just a myth
its all just a fairytale anyways
you have to give up free thinking
you have to give up your will
you have to not read any science books.....
Do the same answers over and over against constitute free thinking?
I am not saying all atheists do it, but lets face it, on this message board, a lot do.
I really dont have any issues with most atheists. I actually agree with a lot of their criticisms with a lot of christians. But how in the world can people that constantly recite these phrases to questions they really should simply ignore, type these standard phrases without seeing the irony?

Then by many of your own logic, why would you expect christians to change their beliefs and answers in order to become what you would consider free thinking?
How can you claim they are brainwashed for thinking and repeating what they consider truths over and over again if you are claiming that if something is true then it shouldnt changed?
I guess my criticism of some, I should have said some in the question, atheists, is that they claim that they are freethinking and why are they any more free thinking then a christian if they believe things a bunch of other people believe also? I just think soo many atheists throw that word and concept around to mean anyone that doesnt think just like them arent as free thinking or enlightened as them. Isnt that thinking incredibly arrogant? You dont know what kind of research or thought process a christian went thru to come to their conclusions and beliefs.

Wow the incredible number of angry mean spirited answers by many atheists that answered this question only proved my point even more. Thank you.
I think I must have hit a nerve.
I agree that many christians and other groups do this, and when a christian answers a question, believe in Jesus or go to hell, when the question had nothing to do with that, whatsoever, I think it sounds so lame and doesnt add to the question at all.
This question was not meant to be directed at all atheists, but the ones that continue to throw out the same standard answers to questions that they had no reason, whatsoever, to answer that response to.
What question hasnt been asked ten times? I am not on here 24/7 and I had not seen this question before.
You people that felt the need to cuss and belittle and freak out really need to calm down. It is just a question and it wasnt meant to bash on all atheists. Just the ones that dont seem to have any respect for christian's questions.

So I was just reading some of the answers to this question (it's a good one), and I am amazed by the pride I saw in them. Saying "there is no God" is the same as stating that 2+2=4?! Really. No, I'm afraid not. It's only an opinion. And I believe that religious people have just as many reasons to believe in God as atheists do to NOT believe in God.
There's a lot of mud flung both ways on here. Such is R&S.
I do understand what you're saying, but I generally ignore those people. Some atheists on here do seem to have a stock answer to all Christians' questions, just as some Christians seem to have a stock answer ("Get saved," "Read the Bible," "I'll pray for you," et cetera.) to all atheists' questions. However, many religious people as well as many atheists have excellent arguments for their opinions.
I prefer to listen to them.
But I do think it's ironic that many atheists seem to consider themselves "free thinkers" when they all (by all, I mean of the many) quote from the same books and websites. I don't consider Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, godisimaginary.com, Zeitgeist, or jesusneverexisted.com to be reliable sources.

Maybe it is because these theists asked the same questions over and over again and hasn't managed to rebut the same answers, tried to sweep it under the floor thinking the same answer would not be repeated if they repeat the same question.

Actually, Questionable Mark, the single thing for people not accepting imaginary monster as their master is not living in delusion.

This question was not meant to be directed at all atheists, but the ones that continue to throw out the same standard answers to questions that they had no reason, whatsoever, to answer that response to.
Vs
Why do atheists think they are sooo much more freethinking when they keep .....
So what are you trying to say, the bible bug of contradiction bites you hard?

Hey, that really is part of what brought me over to the Light of Jesus.
Frankly, I kept hearing and using the argument that Christians and other religious (spiritual) people were ignorant, boring, prejudice, judgemental, etc. etc. and yet the folks I knew who did not believe in Jesus but are wiccan, atheist, agnostic, pagan, buddhist etc. were as much a mixed bag of nuts as the Christians they claimed to be decrying. (self included).
Additionally, I never heard a truly reasonable argument against the Bible. Especially the contradictory part.

Hypocrisy is a bittersweet thing. It can show people there faults and help towards there betterment, but can make them look like fools in the same turn. You my friend are doing the exact same thing a lot of Christians do... does that make you just as bad as those atheists? no it doesn't.
In reality what you are accusing some atheists of doing, they are doing, but don't be mistaken that Christians, agnostics, Muslims, Jews... pretty much anyone does it.
It's more to do with the person than the belief

whatever part of the bible you quote its still the religion which is unacceptable, because of the lack of scientific proof . So the answer will basically be the same as religion requires unquestioning faith, which is the total opposite to a scientific seeker. Do you expect the answers to change when the basic assumption is the same? similarly the religious hide behind the argument that god is right irresepective of the issue on hand

both "sides" are guilty of this,
it's the people with more extreme beliefs however that are the ones with the "simple" answers. I'm not sure what I believe which is why I question things laid out by religious groups, especially when there are so many that hold contradictions with each other, I do believe however that anyone who does not question their own beliefs is closed minded whilst anyone willing to consider different ideas and beliefs are the truely openminded and "free thinking"

There are many questions that are asked 10 times a week.
You're correct. SOME atheists do it; some Christians do it.
(repeat the same mantra)
I also agree with The Cricket.
Thanks.

It is not a matter of free thinking it is just a matter of actually processing information. Wasps, clef pallets and people that shows signs of evolution (i.e. Born with no appendix or wisdom teeth) What, most people always have to fall back on faith to explain what they don’t understand. The Bible is a collection of stories with a moral lesson (I call that literature) and it is beautifully written. However, no omnipotent being would have screwed with Job, Lots wife, or Noah. If god was truly all powerful and all KNOWING he would have gotten rid of that back stabbing, fornicating ****** David way before he had a chance to F up,
And for all the rest of the Christian yehas, the atheists don’t need some one to die for there sins. They can pay for them themselves.
All Bible thumping Christians get to sleep nights because of Christ’s payment in advance theory. Agnostics pray all the time, and atheist always pray on their deathbed. I am none of the above
And lets not forget that Powerful Men and Women have used God to gain wealth and power since the dawning of time. I find it actually hilarious that the Jews the Christians and the Muslims all share the same basic religion. I take that back the Jews get it, but they don’t care.
In short INFORMATION is worthless unless you can take off the blinders and actually process THEN USE it.
Blind faith in anythign will get you killed

Well, what comes around goes around. Thiests (mainly Christians) and Athiests all throw out the same rhetoric either trying to defend themselves or convert/deconvert the other.
