At times I get disappointed but on the other hand about all I can do is help them to help theirself. I can't do it alone.

Yes and yes. You have to accept you are dealing with a different mind set than your own, and that they may not have hit bottom yet, until they do they have nothing to bounce back off. It's tied into self-esteem, maybe they don't feel worthy of being in the position you are advising them about. At least you live to fight another day, and maybe next time the person will be in the right place at the right time to reach out and accept your help. If you help a handful in your life, then that is more than many and counteracts some of the more venomous and destructive actions from people out there. :-) Keep being who you are, the world needs more altruistic folk.

Yes, it has been drummed into me through upbringing to NOT fail at anything. Whether it is helping people or making the most ideal effort to help and maintain excellence of self in every aspect possible.
After a while, one feels they have been in the military from the very first day of birth!
I hate it! But I am so regimented to NOT disallow logic, and the best I can be, that I apply this, which I hate to my life. If not, I begin to think that I am letting someone down and I fill myself with exaggerated guilt! Yet, I truly despise living the life of the eternal soldier!!!

Yes, I do get upset with myself, in hindsight, but then it's too late! I missed a chance to do good. That's why we should always be kind to strangers; I beg the Lord to forgive me and hope I will do better next time; no shrugging off here. It's so hard to believe what people are saying to you these days, there are so many players; drug addicts...etc...I just don't want to be taken advantage of; I don't know who to help anymore; I don't know who to believe. I tried donating to my favorite charities, but then I got all this mail from anybody and everybody that run a non-profit; now I spend a lot of time shredding all this stuff with my name and address on it; just like when you try to be online; your stuff gets passed around all over the place. They claim that they don't share it-I don't trust any of them.

It depends on how serious the issue is. If its severe never give up, eventually they will see the light, find alternate methods of teaching them or helping them.
If its casual, consider this, how many people are you forgetting to help because your wasting your time on that person. Use what you have where it does the most good.

Sometimes a lil bit
but If I am to help others I must not
get discouraged. Because you have to help yourself
before you can help others right?
Just remember If we don't fall we can never get up.....
Good Question dood.
Star friggin star for you...

I do especially if I know I have the means, but if not, I just offer it through prayers and ask God to let others do it for me.

I do get upset, but I also realize there are times I just can't do anything about it.
