Right now in San Diego they are one of the major organizations donating food, supplies and opening up the church buildings for evacuees.

Are these the kind of things that are going to get us mormons sentenced to an eternity of fiery torture and hell?

Do you really think a loving God just ignores all the good a church or a person does and sends them to hell forever because they didnt quite get it all here on earth?

Does anyone that doesnt think just like you ever do anything good or worthwhile? You are so cynical.
You just accused mormons of helping fire victims for publicity. What is it like being you?

I wasnt questioning my faith or works. I was questioning how anyone can believe in a God that would sentence good people to an eternity of torture if they spent their whole lives doing nothing but good.

You wouldnt go to outer darkness. Only a very very tiny handful of people will that have been face to face practically with God, known beyond any uncertainty of the plan and actively denied God. Some apostles think that we are talking about less then the fingers on your hands is the amount of people that will go there. Satan is a most definate candidate, some think Cain.

You would in no way be going to outer darkness.
I dont know your circumstance or your knowledge, even members dont sometimes ever really gain a testimony or are put in a position where they ever really consider the things they have learned. Only one person can judge where you will go.

I am neither Mormon or Christian, but have known both. I believe that the basic tenets of both religions have a lot of good in them. I also believe that a lot of Christians dislike Morons because they are different. You do a tremendous amount of charity work, you tithe more than any other religion I know of, and are some of the nicest people I know of. Christians, who are true "Christian" in their actions are just are nice as all other religions. When I am approached to convert to any religion, and I get approached often, I find that the LDS can accept a no thank you better generally then a Christian. While I cannot believe in either side of this coin, I find no religion evil. The only evil in religion is the people who say that their religion is the right one and yours is all wrong.

EDIT: When you get old your vision decreases and your grey matter does not allow you to spell anymore. I really am not sure but I think I meant to say Mormon. Thank you very much for the smile. I have corrected my mistake.

I was cyber-chatting with another anti-Mormon who was griping because we Mormons take care of our own hungry, not operate a soup kitchen for the street people, etc.

My husband and I volunteer every Monday morning at the Bishop's Storehouse where we fill food orders for those in need. I was talking to a friend who used to be the director of the storehouse and was telling him about this conversation. He said, well, we may not operate soup kitchens and homeless shelters, but they know we are here!

Turns out that, if we have food that is almost to it's pull date, or we have had more milk or bread or eggs (perishables) delivered than we can use, they go to the homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and they are gratefull for the donations.

To those who say we do these donations to get attention, well, nothing could be further from the truth, since many times, we use others to distribute our donations, like the Red Cross.

I was also told that, when people make donations to Deseret Industries, especially of clothing, the very best stuff is not put in the stores, but in storage. Then, when there is a disaster somewhere, those best of the best donations are what is given to those in need.

If those are the people who are going to hell, and if the heaven bound ones are the lazy ones, then I guess I'd rather be in hell.

I'm glad I don't believe in hell/outer darkness. Let me ask you this? I used to be a member. Say I was doing the exact same things that the LDS church is doing in California--helping out with food, supplies, opening up my home to evacuees; yet I have walked away from the LDS church (and according to what I was always taught, Outer Darkness was reserved for those who denied the Holy Spirit --ie those who left the church, and for murderers). Do you think I deserve to go to outer darkness?

EDIT: I'm not asking you to judge me, just what your opinion is.

The first statement you made will answer you question. By their fruits ye shall know them. If the LDS church is doing good things, whether or not the church is true (I believe its true) shouldn't dictate whether or not they go to hell. That would be like me saying Athiests /Wiccan /Pagan/ Buddhist /Jewish/ Catholic or other churches will go to hell because they don't believe in Mormonism. Which they won't. God is just and will give everyone a chance, some people just don't get their chance until after this life is over.

So now I'm going to take some time and comment on other commenters:

Wally, You said : "He offers His righteousness and complete salvation as a free gift."

Its actually not free. We have to repent first, before he will forgive us. How can he forgive us if we have not repented and forsaken our sins?

You also said: "If you are trusting Christ, along with baptism and works and temple ceremonies to save you, you are probably not really trusting that Christ can save you. You are thinking that Christ could not completely save you. You need to shift your faith from all those other things you were trusting, and trust the Savior to save you. Wake up to the fact that you need a Savior because you have sinned. Your works don't save, they condemn."

We do trust Christ to save us, if we do what he asks of us. One of the things he has asked us to do is get baptized, and he has also asked us to do special works in the temples, which we will do faithfully. We have already woken up to the fact that we need a savior because we all sin. Our works don't save, we know that, but if (and I mean IF for those who don't believe in our church) our church wasn't true, but we'd never had the truth, a just God would take that into account and wouldn't cast us into hell for something we did not know. He simply wouldn't be God if he did that.

You also said this: "He will not leave you in some level of damnation if you are not married in the temple."

Of course we know that! You don't understand our church if you would say something like that, because he doesn't leave anyone in damnation unless they are a son of perdition. How many people do you know who will go to hell (outer darkness) ? I personally don't know anyone. Most people will end up in the Telestial or Terrestial Kingdom if they are truly bad. And even the Telestial (Lowest ) Kingdom is so glorious that we can't even comprehend it.

You said: "No worse than anyone else, but if you believe the bible, then EVERYBODY deserves to go to hell- even Christians. Some of us just aren't going to get what we deserve."

If we all deserved to go to hell, there would be no purpose for existence, because Gods Work and Glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man, not to condemn us to living with Satan for eternity. If we deserve to go to hell, we will. He doesn't make exceptions just because. If we don't deserve to go to hell (I don't think many people do) then we won't go to hell. Simple as that.

Liesel:

You are confused. Outer darkness is not reserved for people who left the church, and not even for murderers (That is more like the Telestial and Terrestial Kingdoms.) It is reserved for Satan, his followers and sons of perdition. You have no chance at going there because you've never seen God and had a true testimony of the truth. If you see God and then deny him, you might just have a chance at Hell.

Joe R: You can do good things without joining a cult, but considering we aren't a cult, that is pretty irrelevent.

Desiree: We don't do things for false advertising. We do things to help other people in need.

Simba S: You yourself are being a Moron, because I believe you have gotten your information from false sources. How can you judge our church if you do not know the truth about it?

Anyone who thinks that someone's going to hell (i.e. roast on Satan's BBQ forever) for an opinion, be it atheist, pagan, Buddhist, or Scientologist, Isn't a truly decent person. There's an inherent viciousness with such people that I think is inexcusable. Doing good, being a good person, loving your fellow man, being an altruistic person is what counts, and if there is a god, then I hope he thinks actions count for a heck of a lot more than someone's internal conversation with themselves, and with god.

Christianity believes that, yes. Or not that he ignores all of the good we do; but that isn't the ticket into heaven, it just helps us pay for the good seats when we get there.

And the whole thing about 'fire' is just a metaphor.

Good point. Today I bought 90 bottles of shampoo because our Stake is having a service project putting together hygiene kits to send out to displaced people.

We don't believe our works save us, but we do believe that we should do what Jesus would do. And he would give of his time and substance to give to the needy!
