You hated someone so much that you just couldn't stand the sight or even thought of them, but it's almost impossible to ignore them. In fact you're stuck with them 24/7 because it is yourself.

And on top of all that I don't sleep very much because I'm afraid of the dark. I'm going to a psychologist who gives me compliments and tells me to give myself compliments, but I can't believe her because I know she's getting paid to say that stuff.

If you are serious, and are not joking,go see a shrink/social worker/trusted friend or family member and get all of the self-hatred you are feeling out in the open and confront yourself mentally.
I'm going to guess you are a fairly young person.Teenager or young adult?if so...there is a time in every youngish person's life when s/he goes through a period of self-doubt,if not outright self-hatred.many reasons:Zits.Boy/girl problems.Difficulty in school/college.
The most important thing you can do for yourself is get help.I can't emphasize that enough.Please.

Everyone has bad days...just gotta find the good in it.
That's the problem with most people...sometimes it's really hard to find the good things in life and about yourself.
C'mon...anybody can be sad about life...it takes a true human to be handed terrible things, smile and prevail.
Show me why I should even help, y'know?
I know tons of sad people, and I distance myself from them. Nobody likes mopey kids.

psychologist are paid to help. Paid, but they helps nevertheless.
Anyway I think you should address your fear of sleeping in dark issue first. lack of sleep could make situation worse for you.

I would forgive myself. And then become a friend to myself. My burden and pain would be lifted.
