Seems to be normal in some cultures. We had to buy our Bengali father in law a spitoon to stop him flooding the lounge carpert when he watched TV.

The suggestion of an obedience class is an excellent one. Read here https://tr.im/BNwiW
It will help your dog learn to behave around other dogs, and help keep your training moving forward as you'll want to be prepared for the next class. Also, a good instructor can be a wonderful resource, someone to help you with any questions or concerns about your dog. Leash training can take a LOT of time and patience, depending upon the dog. I'm not sure what you mean by 'horrible on a leash' but my basic suggestion is that you take a lot of yummy treats with you on walks. When your dog behaves well on the leash (not pulling) praise her and give her treats. Change direction a lot so that she learns to pay attention to YOU and where you are going. It's also helpful to teach a "Watch Me" command such that whenever your dog looks at you you praise her and give her a treat. About chewing, yes a Kong is a great chew toy. Some dogs also like Nylabone brand bones. I suggest also teaching a "Leave It" command. You use this when she shows interest in chewing on something she shouldn't. Then immediately give her something she is allowed to chew, such as the Kong stuffed with somethig yummy. This same command will be helpful on walks when she wants to sniff or eat something she shouldn't. Again, when she does leave the item alone, be sure to give lots of praise. I would look into an obedience class right away. I think that you'll find that a good obedience class can help enormously! Good luck and enjoy your new dog.

I don't think this disgusting habit has anything to do with race or culture because I haven't read any studies on this.I have seen a variety of people do it and it seems that spitting is not limited to any gender or age group either. One might ask why these same people do not carry a paper towel or tissue just in case.I think it is ignorance and shows no respect for others.

When you say 'asian' man you do mean someone from the Indian sub-continent. Over there, there is little understanding of hygiene or consideration for others when you discard your body fluids. My friend visiting India got a faceful of spit and mucus from a driver passing by. There is no concept of shared public space which should be kept clean. Anywhere public is fair-game for spit, rubbish, faeces, etc. So you will see them chucking their garbage into the streets or spitting their red-stained (from chewing betel nuts) spit onto the pavement, etc. When they arrive in the west, they are well entrenched in their ways and will just do the same, regardless. This is not to say that some of their own kind approve. Many have learned western ways and improved their etiquette but they can't change the ways of the older ones. Maybe the only way to change them is to make proper etiquette an element of the naturalisation process and make it enforceable so that if they are behaving badly, they can be deported. Maybe we should follow the Swiss model in their recent elections. Unfortunately many Brits are also following this pattern of behaviour, chucking rubbish willy-nilly, and following the footballers and asians by spitting in public.

They're just ignorant, no manners or education....... It's not only an "asian" habit you know, there are also lots of people -- all men, at least from what I've seen -- who do it in my country (Mexico) and it's disgusting.... but of course you won't see a well-educated man doing this in the middle of the street that's gross. So it can perfectly be controlled (it's not "in our nature") but some people just choose not to because they couldn't care less about the others. GROSS.

This disgusting habit was outlawed years ago, there was a sign on all forms of public transport forbidding it , all in an effort to reduce the incidence of Tuberculosis. China has finally caught on to the connection and has banned spitting, but here in UK we see an increase, there is also a recent increase in the incidence of TB - does anyone else see the connection here?

Walked into town yesterday and a teenage girl did it right in front of me then straight after a lad and then what looked like an eastern european immigrant, as i walked on i kept hearing that horrible uurggghhh throaty sound and i gotta say i felt so sick, it's disgusting it's worse than a rat.
To the people who say it's a natural thing, so maybe we should sh1t on the pavement too, right in the faces of others?
Come on! it's a bodily function and should be kept private, u r only defending it cos u do it...They should find a quiet corner and do it in a tissue not in my face and specially not where mothers and babies have to be and walk. germs germs germs.

Some people suffer with catarrh and (to put it bluntly!) they spit it out when in trickles into their mouth (sorry about that but I had to explain!). They are ignorant, rude and vile and have no respect for others. Haven't they ever heard of a handkerchief or tissue?

I was sat on a bus and this african guy emptied the contents of his nostrils one after the other right into the middle walkway in full view of everyone(and it was packed). Some people just aren't raised with any kind of manners and so its perfectly normal to them I guess.

Maybe that person has a cold and had to spit out that thing in his throat. I had to do that a few times when I was suffering from allergies although, I try to spit it in the grass or somewhere that people won't step in it.
