didn't you see "Terminator"?
At close range a shotgun blast can rip chunks and body parts clean off. I have heard of an accident where while horseback riding a fellow accidentally shot a companion, and nearly ripped him in half.
Very Dangerous weapon!

Yes. At close or point blank range, the wad alone can cause tremendous damage, not to mention the shot contained in the rest of the casing. If you are using a slug or 00 buck shot at point blank range, its called good game.
I use 3" Magnum 00 buck shot in my 12 gauge for home defense. If I lived in an apartment complex or had roomates I'd switch to a lighter load and use #7.5 bird shot ... less chance of worrying about punching a hole in the wall and killing your neighbor or roommate.
The most intimidating sound I've ever heard was the sound of someone racking a shotgun, if that isn't enough to make you stop dead in your tracks, you won't be around long enough afterwards to learn that lesson.

Any gun can kill a person. A 12 gauge can kill at long range with some kinds of ammo. Shot could kill someone to probly 20-40 yards depending on several factors. Slugs could kill at 200 yards.

A shotgun at close range is utterly devastating. Which is why a shotgun is a great choice for home defense!
The mere sound of someone racking the slide on a shotgun is enough to make people jump out of windows.

A double barrel coach shotgun has the main paralyzing countenance on a viewer, simply by fact the media has given it an air of secrecy of being the terrific protecting risk-free practices. additionally it can not jam. we are hoping. And Psychologically, "having" a semi-automobile weapon, or to a lesser degree any length magazine for numerous lever-or-slide action pictures, many times reasons the classic "A-group" reaction of filling the air with lead yet hitting no longer something. A double looks approximately suited for imposing seriousness onto aimed pictures, with yet one backup. this isn't like utilising a 38 specific handgun for that is low draw back and in basic terms protecting heading in the right direction and protecting on pulling the set off, for many times greater good success than a magnum which spends maximum of it relatively is time pointing on the ceiling!
