Don't join. If you do join you will be required to take an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic and to follow the lawful orders of the President and the officers and non-commissioned officers appointed over you. The structure of your question tells me you are not ready to make that commitment. All branches face peril. Even in peacetime. There were three times as many deaths on active duty between 1980 and 1984 than have been suffered since September 11, 2001.

They're all dangerous. If you're that worried about your skin, don't go.

I am a combat veteran. I've been decorated for valor and wounded twice. I'd go again if they'd let me.

...Let me clarify- The service will give you orders and you're going to be expected to carry them out whenever and WHEREVER. There are no politics or BS objections to individual conflicts allowed. If you want to serve then serve. If you want to pick and chose and be politically correct or "promote", enroll at UC Berkley or something and STAY HOME.

And by the way, I served in the Navy and volunteered for the duty I got. But even carrier duty is very dangerous especially on the flight deck. People do die.

If you do not want to go to Iraq then it would not make sense for you to join any of the branches of the service. I have been in the Army for three years and eight months, and I am currently in training for my second deployment. This time I am going to Afghanistan.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Glad my ancetors didn't think like you.Cuase I wouldn't have this great country to call home.
Land of the free. home of the brave.
Free thanks to the Brave. You just want to take not give thats the just the thing that weakens this country.
Shameless.

Join the US Navy and get assigned to nuke subs. Even if they get involved in Iraq, you will be nice and safe in the sub.

If you're worried about about that, then perhaps you should seek other employment.
