Tell him that he will get a treat atthe end of the day if he calms down. I know that children with ADHD sometimes can't help it, but maybe telling him that will get him excited for a treat. Maybe like ice cream, a movie day or let friends stay the night (although that might be a bad idea.) You could get him involved in a sport or something which will require using a lot of energy. Are you sure you can't give him more medicine? Check with your doctor and ask him for ideas and if you can get anymore medicine that won't make him have sleeping troubles. Treat your son like a regular child. He is, he just has ADHD. Dicipline him, give him chores, but don't be too mean or unmean. He is a regular child and needs to be treated like one. Also, if he is waking up your youneger son than I would suggest taking your younger son and letting him sleep elsewhere, as he needs his sleep as well. Another good thing that might help your son is Vitamen B. Vitamen B is proven to help calm ADHD. Google it: Vitamen B helps ADHD fir more information. Hope I could help =) -Tara

I was blessed with 2 children with adhd. Their 3 other sisters made it quite interesting to try to manage the behavior and still keep things fair.
Our Dr. did not prescribe medication for the over active kids. He said we - and those children needed to "learn to deal with it."
--Lots of outside play.
--Before-supper runs - Dad would stand at the door counting laps as the kids ran around the house. The hyperactive kids got more laps than the others. Benefit was that they could actually stay on their chairs all through supper.
-- Bedtime "tea" the Dr. prescribed for all the kids -- was made of hot water, a spoon of apple vinegar, and a spoon of honey. The taste was much like hot cider. The way it works is to relax the child enough to stay still long enough to get to sleep. Works in about 20 min. -- just enough time to brush their teeth and get in bed.
(Bless that old Dr. for a natural remedy)
-- In the car or at the table see that the hyperactive kids are separated
-- Be firm that there are times to expect certain behavior, and they will be given full freedom to use their energy later. And, YES, THEY CAN CONTAIN THEMSELVES for brief periods of time without medication.

I was able to take classes for parenting an ADHD child at our local school district. It really helped me with ideas for dealing with her behaviors, helping to involve her sister in the process and I hooked up with other parents of ADHD kids, too. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck and God Bless.
P.S. I survived shes nineteen now.

Just so that you know, medications alone wont fix it... especially when he is older (late teens/adulthood).
Try to find a local support group for parents with ADHD children (CPS might know of one, or your local Childrens Hospital). You should also look into Behavior Modification. If used constistently, its quite successful.
Lastly, art therapy or play therapy may help your child as well as its a safe place to express his frustrations and feelings. Which believe you me he will feel constantly.
As for your daughter, once you find the support group, ask her to attend with you.

Maybe you can stop feeding him so much coke and sugar...put him on a diet of fresh foods and vegetables, no take aways and no presevatives, and I guarantee his ADHD will stop..
Diet controls moods and behaviors far more than parents realize...
