Speaking from a personal experience, absolutely not.

My ex told me after we split up that she was pregnant with my child, and that she was going to have an abortion. She said that she wanted to take the baby away from me so I couldn't take it away from her. (I wholly believe that she made the whole thing up, but even the slight possibility hurt.)

I begged her not to (again questioning whether she was even telling the truth) but she supposedly went through with it. Even the slightest chance that she may have actually done it eats at me every day... and I did just about everything in my power to stop her, short of kidnapping her.

That pregnancy would have essentially ruined my life. It would have pinned me forever with a woman who I had desperately fought to remove from my life permanently. I was in a new relationship (a healthy one, not just a rebound) with another girl who did not want children at the time, and it would have been a strain on that. But still, I would have suffered through all of that and more to know that I really did have a child.

I know that hearing this story from the man's perspective isn't as strong of an impact, but it's something that I live with and struggle with constantly.

well, I'm really a scaredy cat about illegal medical procedures. I don't want to die in the process, you know? That would be kind of counter-productive.

So I'd make the bastard marry me. Seems only fair that I'm getting shackled with his offspring, he should be shackled to me. If the issue is money, well...it's easier to support an unplanned pregnancy when you've got two involved rather than one person on their own.

Last Ent Wife, can you back that statistic up? I'd trust a qualified doctor with my life in a sanitized operation room, but I would not trust someone with no office, credentials, and a rusty knife or hanger. The thing is, if I died during a legal abortion, my family could sue. But if it was illegal...no lawsuit there.

In the event that I became pregnant and chose not to raise the child myself, I would most likely opt for adoption. I can imagine some scenarios where I would not want to carry the child (e.g. rape), but I think I could handle that and just place the child for adoption. However, I have never been in that situation, so I couldn't accurately tell how I would really respond.

I would never have an illegal abortion, however. I might fly to a place where abortions were legal and safe, but no back alleys for me.

Adoption. And yes, I've been there and done that.

There are ALWAYS couples looking for babies to adopt.

EDIT - hey Low Rain, did you know that more women have died of safe and legal abortions then ever died of "back alley" illegal ones?

EDIT EDIT
Well 16 or 17 years ago, yes, I could have proved it to you, because the CDC used to keep data on the number of women who died during abortions (the legal years I'm talking about). In 1987 alone there were over a thousand.
But then Planned Parenthood sued the CDC stating that revealing that information was a violation of privacy. Planned Parenthood won, and now you will you not find a single statistic ANYWHERE relating the number of deaths caused by abortion in the past ten years. Interesting, huh?

I have two grown sons and run a youth center. Needless to say that having no small children at home gives my husband and I incredible freedom to dedicate our time to the work of the Lord at the center. We take them on weekend trips, have huge concert events, stay out late with them, stay at camp with them, etc...... A child at this time in our lives would be inconvenient to say the least, but I would carry this child to term, keep him, love him and trust God to show me the blessing in him, even if abortions were legal, which they are. Every life has something to offer us.

I would NOT terminate the life within, regardless of the impact. There are far more better alternatives. Like Adoption! The baby is a new life, a precious gift from God!

I would go to Canada. It isn't a personal issue for me because at this point in my life it is just not possible. But depending on my circumstance I very well might have one anyway. If you have enough money you can get a safe abortion, legal or not.
