From birth.

Usually the doctor notices that the baby has the physical signs and then chromosome testing is done. People with Down's have three of chromosome 21 instead of the normal two.

Some people have physical signs that resemble Down's but don't actually have Down's.

They are evident before birth.

That link the first poster gave has lots of good info.

My ex had a brother with Down Syndrome. He had no fear. He was very friendly to everyone and made a positive impact in his community. He couldn't read or write, but he loved to sing Elvis songs into his karoke machine. When he passed away at age 25, he had nearly 700 people attend his funeral and the local news did a story on his life.

He would have been 26 on Saturday....
