It's just not really feasible. Paternity would have to be established. That's not free or fast. Rapists and spousal abusers would be afforded power over a woman's reproductive system. If there were an exception for rape, there would have to be a conviction which would probably take longer than the gestational period. Spousal rape hardly ever results in conviction, even though it is recognized and illegal in all fifty states. Most importantly, he's got the option to leave. The majority of single parent homes in the United States are headed by females. It is imperative that they are able to make decisions about whether or not they are willing to be in a situation like that.

One of the arguments coming from the pro-choice crowd that I have heard is, "why should a 16yr old ruin her life, education and future potential because she made a mistake or accidentally became pregnant". So I say this argument makes it fair for the teenage fathers to be able to claim no responsibility if the girl has the baby.
I am pro life, I am just using the above to show how ridiculous that argument is. Because no one would agree that it is ok for the father to skip out, and yes I know it happens all the time, doesn't make it ok and you can even get the law on your side if it does happen.
So if the father shares the responsibility of having the baby, he should also have an equal right in deciding if they should have an abortion...correct?

Tough call, but legally I'd have to say no. The woman is the one who actually has to go through pregnancy and delivery so she's the only one who should have the final say. It would cause many more problems if women were legally forced to have children against their will or to have an abortion against their will just because that's what the man wanted.
Morally, however, I would hope he could explain his position to the woman and she would give it her consideration. And if he was wanting her to have a child, he would offer to assume full custody.

I think so, cause it takes two to tango.
But it's hard to say. It really depends on the nature of the relationship of them. If it was just a one night stand, odds are it's an added complication the father doesn't want anyway. I still think they should be notified in all cases, unless of course you don't remember their name.....
If I got pregnant, I would take into consideration the desire of the one who got me pregnant. If they wanted me to have the child, and we could support it and survive...I wouldn't consider abortion. It's not just me in the game, even though it's my body. But if they want me to abort it, and I don't want to...I'm definitely not aborting it. It's a tough decision, that you can't say what you would do very easily and MEAN it. It's one of those things that you have to be there to really experience the decision making.

I don't agree with abortion, but if it's going to happen, yes the father should definitely have a say in whether or not a life gets ended. The more the merrier.

Depends on the situation.
If he has no desire to support the mother or child then I think not. HOWEVER the situation is open to debate if he wants to raise the child with or without the mother. But ultimately it's the woman's body in quetion.

Unless he locks her up in a cell and doesn't let her out for nine months, he really can't do a thing about it. Regardless of what he wants. If the woman doesn't want it, it's her body... she doesn't have to have it and reality is there isn't a damn thing the father can do about it. Unless of coarse he wants to carry it in his body. Maybe in years to come, if the father wants the baby, they will have machines that the baby can grow in (I have heard of this), but for now, no.

in my opinion,
the father ideally should know, and have some say, but only to a point.
as a deciding factor it should be entirely up to the mother, period. if she wants to have an abortion theres no way i can justify him having any real right to have any sort of decisive say for or against it, other than that which she may or may not chose to give him.
I think in an ideal situation, she'd talk to him and listen to his view, but ultimately I think it must be up to her.

there are alot of questions on abortion tonite, and all of my frustration is not towards you.
men who have the balls to make babies should have enough balls to raise, and feed them, teach them and show them how to be men or women. this is how the world survives. it doesn't survive by killing our babies.
if you can't raise your own, you just ain't spit in my eyes

Of course he should. The baby is half his.
Woe to today's "modern woman" who has all but stomped on a man's opinion, worth, and respect.
