so I'd like a fruity drink with a splash of alcohol in it, but am always afraid to ask the bartender. Is it OK to ask him/her to fix me a drink with just a small amount of alcohol in it? Thanks!

I second the fuzzy navel. Peach Schnapps is rather weak, only 35proof. (not always, I did buy a bottle once that was 70proof, but most places carry the 35.) It has only a little bit of alcohol, weak alcohol at that. If you are worried about even that being to much, just ask for less alcohol in the drink.

Enjoy your night out.

If you're looking for a light drink...

My favorite is a Midori Sour. Midori is a green, melon flavored liquor that is only 20% alcohol. A Midori sour is essentially Midori and citrus soda (though the receipe does change). It is a good drink, but some places don't carry Midori.

Another I used to drink quite a bit was an Amaretto Sour. It is pretty much the same as above, except with Amaretto. Most bars carry Amaretto.

After dinner drinks tend to be light on alcohol, but big on calories:

Brandy Alexander (has more alchohol than most after dinner drinks) is 1 part Brandy, 1 part dark Creme de Cacao, and one part Cream (if you are lucky, some places make it with ice cream). Personally, I don't care for Brandy or Creme de Cacao, so I don't care for these

Grasshopper: A grasshopper is 1 part Creme de Mint, 1 part light Creme de Cacao, and 1 part Cream. The drink has a great minty flavor.

Pink Squirrel: This contains 1 part Creme de Noyaux (an almond flavored liquor), 1 part Creme de Cacao, and one part Cream.

You can always go the route of a wine spritzer

A fuzzy Navel is peach Schnapps and OJ. Flavored Schnapps tend to contain less alcohol (not always true though)

I liked Malibu and Pineapple Juice. Malibu is a 40% liquor if I recall. While it tastes great, it might be more than you are looking for.

Many people like vodka with OJ and Cranberry. Bartenders have no problem with making your drink weaker, if you ask them to.

frozen pina colada, flavored margaritas, daiquiris, ask the bartender either for a virgin (non-alcoholic), or tell him/her to use only a splash of alcohol.
