I'm 13 and my older sister is 15. We are really close and she is my best friend. She was always the quieter, doesn't-like-conflicts sort. She is also very very intreverted. Lets just say i'm kind of the opposite. She recently went to school, away from us, but we still talk a lot. She's been decorating her dorm room with like..."emo things" I think that it's really cool. -Now people think that being emo is cool and they tell people that their emo, that's not how it goes- My sister is real emo...but she doesn't admit it. But it's deffinite emotional music obsession in her case. Like hell. She's freaking my parents out and i'm trying to calm them down (I think she's the coolest, even though I wouldn't be emo) but the only thing that will calm my parents down is "She might not even be emo in the first place!" But, really, she is. I feel responsible. Like it was my fault becasue I shouldn't have even given her ideas of cool "deathly" song lyrics to post on her wall in the first place!

Your sister is searching for something to identify with. She likes the music and style, and that is fine. Hopefully she isn't buying into the nihlistic stuff and drug use.

You can love emo music without being emo... same with goth, punk, rap, new wave, metal or whatever. Actually emo has been around for a long time... it is really a more melodic form of the punk and grunge from way back with a little goth thrown in. Punk and goth were around back in the 70s, for pete's sake!

What you might do is try to come up with something that is cooler than that and introduce it to her. You are probably in a better position to find that.
