My dog does not bark! why??

Question

it is a female pitbull mixed.i adopted it at 2 years old and had it for about 3-4 month...ever since i have not heard it park or growl once..

Generally when dogs are happy and content they don't ever bark. Usually when dogs bark is because something is bothering them or they are protecting their territory or they bark when they are bored and want attention. You should be very thankful she doesn't bark .Sounds like a great dog to have around.

Don't know but I had a young female that didn't bark until she became more mature and it was over a year. She was pretty happy go lucky. I do work with a local SPCA and in dealing with rescued dogs, you never know what they have been through before you got them. She may have been trained not to bark. I teach my dogs not to bark endlessly and long ago I had this great mutt when I lived in apartments. He would only bark loud when someone knocked on the door and then he would bark very, very softly when someone was on the parking lot or a different floor. So you can teach them all sorts of barking tricks. Just be happy she's happy and good for you for adopting a pet.

Probably doesn't think she needs to. I had a little Pekingese for 15 yrs. & he was around 4 when he barked the first time & it freaked him out & me too. He was asleep having a puppy dream & he barked! He jumped up & was looking around, I almost jumped out of my skin.
After that he only barked when he smelled chicken cooking & that was only if you were eating in the livingroom. If you sat at the table & ate ANYTHING he would just lay by your feet & sleep.

We have (8) dogs at this time, from French Mastiffs (dogue do bordeaux) down to (2) black Pugs, none of them bark that much, just when someone comes down the driveway or when they are playing....

Well, think of it this way. When dogs used to be in the wild they could not bark or they're dinner would run away. Same with any animal. It's natural for a dog not to bark. Unless whoever you got it from did something to it.

Bull breeds (APBT, AmStaffs & Staffords) are genarally pretty quiet and only bark if they feel threatened or want to warn you - at least in my experience anyway.
I have a 6 month old Pit mix now and the only time she has barked at someone was when the neigbour was chatting to me over the fence, when I picked her up to check him out she was fine. Only time she has really barked.

Really depend on your breed and where you live.
Try to play with her and make noise while playing, sometimes they make weird sound when she is happy.

I had 2 dogs(min pin, sheepdog), both are barker, but I live in a apartment. Whenever people pass by the door they bark like crazy.

You are one lucky person, often times it's the barking that drives people crazy. Is it possible that the prior owner abused her, or whatever she is mixed with is a non barking breed. Have you seen a vet, the prior owner could have given her something that may have damaged her 'voice'.

be very thankful....either the previous owners trained her not to bark or she just don't feel the need....i own four purebreed pitbulls and they bark at EVERYTHING that comes near their yard because pitbulls are naturally very territorial...i wouldn't be concerned about it as long as she is healthy otherwise....maybe you could as your vet the next time she goes in for her yearly shots

you should be happy she isn't. my dog got taken away from being a 'nuisance' to the neighbors. she didn't even bark that much!

doesnt feel it needs to, too happy with its life with you and why would you want it to bark you may wish it to bark and it wont stop lol then you would wish it never barked!!
