Our parents are both very protective. How do you tell them?

If you are an adult, you dont have to. If you are a minor and still under their roof, then I suggest you ask them about dating and find out what their thoughts are. If you think they are unreasonable, sit down and work out some appropriate guidelines.

Depends...
If you have consistently shown them that you are responsible and not prone to flaky behavior, it should not be a problem.

Most early dating is done in events (school dance), groups or double-dating, so I would try to arrange it that way to take the threat level down.

They will want to meet your date, so arrange that. They will probably want to meet your date's parents, so whoever's parents are driving, they can stop in and make the acquaintance of the parents whose house they are picking up at. You get the idea.

The whole idea is to remove all basis for objections.
