The FiST is the "Fire" "Support" "Team".

They are the artillery battalions liasion with whichever unit they are supporting.

Army Rangers are no different from any other unit. They have organic mortars, but for heavier stuff they call their local Arty batt via their FiST.

A FIST team is a Fire Support Team. They are the Artillery forward observers. They direct Artillery, Close Air Support and sometimes Naval Gun Fire since most of the time, the guns cannot see the target at the ranges they fire.

A Ranger FIST Team is a FIST team assigned to a Ranger Company.
