We want to get legally married before he gets deployed to iraq, in case if anything were to happen to him. But my family wants us to get married in the church. I was wondering if we could get legally married now, and then when he comes home from Iraq, we can have the Catholic cermony.

You should go ahead and get legally married, but talk to your priest prior to getting legally married. He might be able to perform a private marriage blessing the day you are legally married. You can have a HUGE party after he gets back from Iraq. Im also a navywife. so if you need any support. just email me at this name. Good luck.

Forgot to mention one thing: There are catholic chaplains in the military who can perform a marriage blessing as well.

No, you can have the marriage blessed, but most likely a Catholic priest won't re-marry you in the Church.

No, but you can have the marriage blessed. It's still a ceremony, but not the same as if you were getting married for the first time.
