my dog marks every thing in the house will nuetering stop him.

The best time to neuter a dog is at 16 weeks old, because his testosterone hasn't kicked in yet. After it has kicked in, neutering will help somewhat but he'll keep marking his territory. He just won't wander as much, all. I've learned this from the vet and from owning my own male dogs (and cats--cats are worse!). The male Weim I own now was neutered just as soon as he was old enough, and he STILL pees like a girl dog! And I am perfectly happy with that!! No hiking on my stuff that way.

Neutering intact male dogs will often decrease or stop urine marking behavior. However, when urine marking has been happening for some time it may not completely stop. When dogs within a household fight, it is often about social rules. From what I've read if he is already marking the house and he's over 6 months of age...he is in a "sexual habit" and NO he will not stop! I guess this isn't totally true with all animals...but this is what I've read...that if you get a dog neutered like right at 6 months of age before they start their sexual habits then you will not have problems with marking. We waited a while after 6 months to neutered our cat and he still marked after he was neutered. Same with my mom's 5 year old chow, she's spayed and she still marks her territory. I'd say talk to your vet...maybe it's a breed thing??

If you do it while the dog is y oung enough. If you get the dog nutered before it matures then in most cases they do not mark the house. It is the same for a cat. If you wait till after it matures then the chances of it stopping will be small.

Not necessarily. It depends on the age of the dog, the reason the dog is marking and how well you are able to get rid of the smell from previous markings.

If you are not breeding your dog, you should neuter him anyway since this will greatly decrease his chances of developing cancer as he gets older.

Not if he over the age of 6months! If he was neutered on 6months yes! Neuter now though won't hurt& may reduce his markings, but probably not stop completely

Yes, but it needs to be done sooner than later. If he's still a puppy, it will probably help. Once he's made this a habit, it might be hard to stop him. But, neutering has other benefits too. Take him to the Nutcracker. :)

It should make a *big* difference in this behavior.

Make your vet appointment first thing tomorrow.

One VERY important thing is to clean every bit of urine from furniture and have the carpets steam cleaned. There must not be any residual urine in your home, or he may do it again because he smells what is already there. (I mean **really** cleaned, not just wiped off.)

I suggest you go to dog training with him (it's really people training) and teach him not to mark in the house first, then get him neutered.

If he has developed the habit of marking, he will continue it after he is neutered.

For example, my dog is trained to completely empty his bladder immediately upon going out, so he only symbolically marks trees and poles as we go by. ;-)
