The dream he had was given by God. What of the dreams Peter had of a sheet of animals. Or John of Revelations. How about the dreams of the king that Shadrack, Meshack, Abedego interperated. How about David and his dreams. All of that information was presented by God and used as he directed. And it wasn't powers as much as it was a gift of the Spirit.

While I agree with the previous posters who've defined the difference between the powers to do so, let's put the 'Sources' aside for a moment, and look at the PURPOSE for the 'interpretation' of one's life or dreams. Psychics 'sell' this 'so-called- divine' information for their own financial gain and notoriety. Whereas, Joseph humbly shared what he was shown for the sake of others as well as the Glory of God, which was revealed through not only Joseph's life, but the lives of all the prophets mentioned in the Bible. Going to a psychic can open up spiritual doors to darkness,by indirectly inviting demons into your life. Not a good idea.!

Very good question. The prohibitions in the Bible are VERY specific. They do not refer to psychics in general, they refer to those who speak to the dead. Even "Witchcraft" in the Bible means something VASTLY different than what it means today. Still, even that prohibition can be refuted. After all, Moses and Elijah were present with Jesus at one time. They were dead, no? Or at least they were not physically alive which Biblically qualifies as "dead." In fact, Jesus did a lot of occult things. There are parts of the Old Testament that seem to call him out on sorcery. The Old Testament also contradicts itself in its prohibition on Astrology. In Genesis, there is a verse that says God created the heavenly bodies as "signs for the times." So the Bible...infallible? I don't think so.

And by the way, psychics do not use Satanic powers to achieve their answers! That is Christian propaganda. If Joseph can claim God as his source, so can any mortal human being. If dream interpretation is a gift, is it not possible that I have it? Or that Joe Schmoe has it? Of course it is. What about prophecy? What about the fact that Revelation marks some End Times occurances with astronomical phenomena?

A pshycic is not getting their interpretations from God that is the difference between them and what Joseph was doing.

Joseph's dream interpretation is from the Holy Spirit, similar to this passage:
(Joel 2:28)
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.

It is not the same thing as being a psychic.

Psychics do not know the future. They only pretend to. They tell you vague things that would be true of most people. Joseph recieved his vision directly from God and it was specific and correct.

Because a psychic uses demonic spirits to get information about the future. Joseph got his powers from God.

. In fact, Job 33:14-16 says: “God speaks . . . in a dream, a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, during slumbers upon the bed. It is then that he uncovers the ear of men.”

God did this in the case of the Egyptian Pharaoh in the days of Joseph, who lived more than 1,700 years before the Common Era. Pharaoh’s dream is found at Genesis 41:1-7, and in verses 25 to 32, Joseph interprets it as foretelling seven years “with great plenty in all the land of Egypt,” followed by seven years of famine. Joseph explained to Pharaoh: “What the true God is doing he has caused Pharaoh to see.” (Genesis 41:28) The dream was prophetic of what actually occurred.*** w96 10/1 p. 5 Can Dreams Foretell the Future? ***

At times God gave instructions to his people by means of dreams, and at other times he gave assurance of divine favor or helped them to understand how he was aiding them. In the case of Jacob, God revealed his approval by means of a dream.—Genesis 48:3, 4.

When Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus, discovered that Mary was pregnant, he decided to divorce her. Then he received instructions in a dream not to do so. Matthew 1:20 says: “After he had thought these things over, look! Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in a dream, saying: ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife home, for that which has been begotten in her is by holy spirit.’” Later he received a warning in a dream: “Jehovah’s angel appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying: ‘Get up, take the young child and its mother and flee into Egypt.’”—Matthew 2:13.

Instead of blindly believing the claims of charismatic dreamers, the wise course is for us to test their claims to avoid being misled by the invisible archdeceiver, who is “misleading the entire inhabited earth.” (Revelation 12:9) But how can they be reliably tested?

God’s written Word is our divinely given guide to the truth. Regarding it, Jesus Christ said: “Your word is truth.” (John 17:17) So we are admonished at 1 John 4:1: “Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.” When carefully compared with the Bible, their claims, philosophies, and actions will conflict with it. God’s Word is the authority as to what is truth.

Is the dreamer who claims special knowledge actually using divination or other spiritistic practices? If so, he is condemned by God’s Word. “There should not be found in you anyone . . . who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah.”—Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

i think it's hilarious that people are saying that a psychics power comes from satan, but a christian's (or a believer) comes from god.

it reminds of a book that i read...the society was deeply oppressed. no one but the temple priests were allowed to do miracles, and the poor little hedgewitch who did the same exact thing was burned for heresy.

weird how that works...

A psychic receives her/his so called powers from Satan and not true at all. Joseph on the other hand received that gift from God. God gives each and everyone of us a gift.
