No it's not to late, Liona Boyd, one of the worlds greatest classical guitarist didn't start until she was fourteen....go on youtube...she's amazing....especially her tremolo. Yes there are a lot of sites to learn guitar online...I prefer a private teacher for students or a weekly lesson at a music store but I realize that a lot of students can't afford that...I wish when I was learning that they had all the information that they do today on the Internet....I'm not crazy about the free sites...I'll give you a few at the end and you'll see what I mean...the're not complete...the other sites have some free lessons, cord charts, electronic tuners, places where you can type in the name of a chord and the site will show you how the chord is made...of course they want you to take their lessons, or buy their Cd's, Video's, DVD's, and books, but this is still a lot less expensive that having lessons, the cd's, videos, and the dvd's can be watched over and over again, and you can put the lessons on cd !!!!! So check these out and see what you think :

16 is not too late to start. It'e never too late. I've taught young people and adults. What you need is time and willingness to practise. you should be aware that it will hurt your fingers for a while, but the pain is worth it. Go to your local music shop - they may have adverts form local teachers. I have a card up in a couple of local music shops, and I get a number of pupils that way. If you don't have a guitar already, ask in the shop what deals they can offer. If possible, take a friend who plays along to look at what's available and advise you. hope this helps.

16 is a great age to start. Actually, ANY age is good! I have a friend who didn't learn until he was in his 50s. Now it is his main pass time. Don't know of any places on the net but I'm sure someone will. My advice is try to learn something from anyone you know who plays - whatever their style may be. I've learned how to apply lots of things from music that I don't particularly enjoy to styles that I DO enjoy. Hang in there & take your time. By the time you're 18 you'll be amazed at how much you learn!

im a intermediate guitar player and i find guitar hero games more difficult than playing the real guitar. for one, you have six strings on a guitar, where as the game has 5 buttons. the game actually has you moving your finger further when you play single notes than actually playing real guitar. where a note on a real guitar might have you just fretting a lower or higer string. the game makes you fret a button that further. i like playing chords on the game. in that, it does feel like your actually playing chords. another thing is that you dont really have to look at a screen when playing a real guitar. so you do need more hand eye cordination to play the game. the songs in the game are set up pretty good. its not just random button presses, the game does have repeatable patterns. its defintely fun. its just easier to play real guitar.

I started when I was 18. I wanted to meet girls. It worked. I'm now 59 and I'm still playing (bars, coffee houses, house concerts, festivals, community events, weddings, supermarket openings ;-)

I played my first paying job after 4 months of hard practice and a few professional lessons.
