Define the "occult". For most xians, occult means the religious practices of any non-christian religion. I do tarot readings, because they are useful symbols to get in touch with the unconscious and become aware of patterns in life. If by occult you means ghosts and such... they're fun in the movies.

It's intensely interesting that you direct this at "non-religious folk" because the Occult isn't religious at all. The idea of the pure Occult is the stripping away of religious restriction from mystical practice. In other words, Kabbalah without the Judaism, Gnosticism without the Christian influence, and Egyptian or Hermetic magick minus the worship of the gods. The Occult itself is not religious and is meant to be a pseudo-scientific approach to the mystery of the power of the human mind. What is even more interesting than your question, is that many Occult theories are now being investigated and, in some cases, proven by practical science. The mind is incredibly powerful over the body it inhabits and also over the environment it lives in.

I don't tend to believe in the supernatural, but I don't think we know enough about the 'natural' to make a clear line between the two, so I have no opinion one way or the other with regards to what we presently define as supernatural.

Occult just means hidden. Maybe you should be more specific if you want real answers.

the occult is paranormal and paranormal has nothing to do with god therefore you need no religion to believe in the paranormal. all things have rational scientific explainations. i believe in paranormal phenomena when presented with evidence or proof or a logical reason as to how it could exist and how it could work.

"Occult" what? I used to read "Dr. Strange" back when Jack "King" Kirby was still doing the artwork, if that's what you mean.

The same way I feel about religion and god... nonexistent but causes problems for humanity because a good number of people DO believe it's real.
