Okay, so I read somewhere that antidepressants can cause mania in bipolar people if there is no mood stabilizer present. I've tried a few different antidepressants. Both have made me suicidal and gradually worsening hallucinations [which I didn't have before the meds] with a few other side effects. Could I be bipolar or is it I just haven't found the right medicine yet?

I don't know how old you are, but some anti depressants have been linked to suicidal thoughts and behavior in youth and adults. Check with your doctor.

Have you ever heard the expression "don't try this at home'?

This means you should get as much information about bi-polar or whatever you think you are, but you should also consult a psychiatrist in matters of diagnosis and medications for mental health issues. IF the shrink you speak to does not sound as if he or she knows what they are talking about, try a second opinion. Check the doc out in one of the internet rating services.

But don't mess around with your meds unless you have doctor supervision. Some of these meds can make you crazyer and you won't know you are there until they find you on the freeway trying to bring in a flying saucer with a couple of cheerleader batons while wearing a Speedo and a cape made out of the dining room table cloth.

Good luck. And keep your sense of humor. Don't lie. I saw you smile.

When you are bi-polar you have severe ups and severe downs. You will feel very high and can go without sleep, food
and still have lots of energy. Bi-polars have grandois ideas
such as feeling like you can do anything and everything. The
flip side iof this disease is crashing to the point you can feel
so low you can have thoughts of eraseing yourself. THe hardest
part is getting the best doctor for your pictular problem. One
that listens and tries to help you get the best meds for you.
SOme meds can throw you into worse depressions. If you have severe side effects tell your doctor to try something else.
Somestimes you have to take a mood stabilizer along with an
antidepressent and another for anxiety if you have stress or
panic attacks also. Please don't be afraid to speak up if a med is making you sick. Many of us have to try 10 or more to
see what works best . Our system are different and
dosages have to fit what is best for you. THere are several
kinds of depression. The B-polar type is the worse due to
mood changes that can come and go in days or even hours.
Your docor should be able to give you clear information on all
disorders you may have. You have to be honest and tell him
everything. If you don't feel comfortable with him and he is not agressive enough in getting you better find another one. Do
your reasearch when you are looking for the best doctor for you. There are somes who do medication research, these are called forresic psych. THere are millions who have the same problems you are having with meds. What works for one does not work for another so it is a long journey to get
the right meds.Don't give up, embrace you depression and
do not let it cover you. We have to keep fighting and try many
things along with medications. Do things that cheer you up.
Anything healthy. Good diet, little caffiene and no alcohol
because these mixes can throw your blood chemicals off
worse than they already are. Excercize can help release
endorphins the good feelings we need, so try to get some new interest to focus on to help relieve some symtoms. They
keep coming out with new meds to try. We have to be willing
to keep fighting and searching for the one that will work the
best. Read everything you can about depression and meds.
There are free groups in your area for people that have the same issues. It helps to keep talking and even keeping a journal each day of your diet meds, and feelings. This infomation can help you tract your meds that you are on. The
combination of several seem to help many if you have more
than one disorder. You will feel better when you dicide to
take control over your depression and do not let it control
you. Meds give us a junp start but we have to still do the work
to keep depression from destroying our lives. Good Luck!
I will be thinking about you and wishing you well and hopeing
you will conquer and win this fight!

Been there. You sound in basic terms like me. Being bipolar sucks. From what you basically stated i could say you're defiantly bipolar. communicate scientific care could nicely be stable for persons laid low with a physiological trauma. yet that may not you. Bipolar is precisely a chemical issue, and desires a chemical answer. i became into in denial approximately it for years. i be attentive to each and all of the excesses. I don’t quite have a issue. If I’m solid sufficient i can in basic terms manage it. basically wimps want meds. i became into worried with reference to the stigma. what's greater valuable, someone who admits they want the meds and takes them or someone that desires them yet won't admit it? Now that i stumbled on meds that artwork I’m sooooooo plenty happier. life is plenty greater valuable while your moods are consistent, and you will are looking forward to the form you will experience from conventional. the issue is the sole thank you to verify what meds someone desires is trial and mistake. i desire with the aid of some tough circumstances by using fact the Dr. placed me on stuff that made me worse. you may desire to have friends and kin watch and supply truthful reaction to you and your Dr. approximately how the meds are affecting you. in the event that they don't look to be providing you with the wanted effects makes beneficial the Dr. retains changing them till you come across what's going to artwork.

All psychotropic drugs are merely repressing your negative thoughts, they are masked in the haze of a fake feeling of well being, however your subconscious is well aware of the conflict and the medication only forestalls the confrontation and in the end you will have worse psychiatric problems from introducing these chemicals into your brain. You need counseling and dealing with your conflicts on a conscious level, working through your feelings, not burying them. Psychiatric drugs have there place but if you are not down the road over the hill cuckoo, go to therapy and by pass the drugs.

Yes, bipolar is AKA dual or split personality where in an individual suffers from confused type on being his or her self. And because it depresses something, the wave of reaction might be in hight after the effect lasts. Try relaxation instead.

I couldn't tell you about your situation, but my son is bipolar (17). He takes aerequel & zoloft and carbatrol for mood stabilizing. Carbatrol is an old drug, apparently, but it works on his moods better than anything else we tried (and we tried everything!).

Take care,
Debbie
