Hey, I'm in weight training, and we're maxing out tomorrow [we max out once a quarter so we can easily see improvement at the end of the year]. I've done a little bit of lifting before the class, but I've never done maxing before.

I'm 150 lbs, 6'2", 16 years old.

Normally I do this whenever we Bench during class-

85lbs
Set 1 - 12 Reps
Set 2 - 10 Reps
Set 3 - 9 Reps
Set 4 - 8 Reps

I feel this is a good weight for me, as I can barely finish the last set.

Can anyone give me a rough estimate on how much I should try to max tomorrow? My friend said I'd be able to do 140 no problem, and another friend said he got to 160 today [he's a bit bigger then me, and he had the same course today], so as of now I'm thinking of starting at 140 and seeing where I go from there...

Any comments/suggestions?

benching involves a lot of mental training not just the physical. many people set themselves up for failure before even attempting a maximum lift, don't get trapped into that negative manner of thinking.

Definitely try 140! You should be able to do it no prob!
When you do the regular workout you should increase the amount of weight that you are lifting and decrease the reps
for example start with 10x85 7x90 5x95 3x100 1x105
you will definitely increase your strength in no time!
Make sure that you do at least 5 min of warm up before attempting any lifting if will help you dramatically! Go in with confidence and you should do even more than 140!!

i would suggest starting out smaller than what you think you can get, this will let you get use to the feeling of heavier weight and also help you warm up some. also remember to take long breaks between tries like 3-5 minutes. also, with reps i can do a lot more than some of my friends at certain weights but max about the same as them, it depends on what type of muscle fibers you have the most of, also, if you want to boost your max start doing reps of around 4-6

You should probably try 115 or 125 before you try a weight like 140lbs. Make sure you have a spotter. Also do a quick light weight warm up to get blood into your arms. Good luck.

it quite is an impossible question to respond to. it may be counted on your form, the cost in which you're lifting, and so on, and so on, and so on. Plus, it does not be precise by using massive distinction in reps. My suggestion: do not issue approximately your one rep max. that's barely stable for bragging besides. save doing what you're doing. additionally, in case you're doing 40 reps, you mine besides raise slower and make it greater solid that way. check out HIT training.
