OK, I change the color of my hair somewhat frequently... not too often, but like once a year maybe (little more often than most ppl, I guess).
Well, I live on a military base and the gate guards need to check my ID everytime I come home. My ID looks exactly like me, it doesn't misrepresent my looks, only my hair is dark brown in it (it was taken 2 1/2 yrs ago, and it doesn't expire until 1 yr from now) and its blonde now.
The gaurds always stare at it for a long time... and they say "I don't know..." and once I had my glasses on and my hair up and the gate guard freaked out... "This don't even look like 'er" and I showed her my other (dependent, non-work) ID, but my hair was light brown there, and my license and she needed someone else to come and look at it... Ugh.
Then tonight a gate gaurd said I needed to get a new ID b/c my hair color was different. OK, every time I need to go in to the place to get my ID and spend litterally all day there (there's always a 2-3 hour wait)...

take my daughter to daycare cuz she wouldn't sit around that long, and take my husband out of work b/c you need your sponsor to go with you to get it, just b/c I changed my hair color?

Does this mean they couldn't identify a totally bald person b/c they need hair color to identify someone? How about, hm, facial structure?

I've been thinking about carrying around little paper cutouts of different hairstyles to stick on my ID so they could tell it was me, lol.

Well... I'd like to know if it is really warranted to ask the person to get a new ID everytime they change their hairstyle...

LOL, verbally lashed? Give me a break. Believe me, it doesn't hurt my feelings when someone who doesn't know me tries to judge me. I think most people agree it doesn't make you trailer trash if you change your hair color once a year.
And excuse me, but my 20 month old daughter pretty much dictates how my day goes. If I go in and it takes 3 hours to get a new ID, its going to mess up her whole schedule. I work nights, take college clases and care for my daughter during the day b/c we can't afford daycare. I guess that makes me a princess who eats bon-bons all day...
I question their mental capabilities b/c I don't see how they can't look past the hair to ID a person. THAT should worry you more - if they're IDing someone based mostly on hair style.
I'm nothing but polite to the guards I interact with daily, so no, I'm not unpopular with them or anything. Many know me by first name.
Oh, and its nice to see ppl jumping on your one typo. I spelled guard correctly 2X afterwards.

I have never had a problem getting on post, They may just be bored or angry because they are posted as gate guards.
You never mentioned if they were military or civilian security
I noticed in recent years civilian security companies have taken over gate guard duties at many installations.
All in all take it in stride. They are there to protect you.
Cheers

The Gate Guard does not know you. Part of his training to to look for differences in the appearance of person trying to get into the post. You make a radical change in your hair style or hair color, you no longer look like the person on the ID card.

The Guard does not get to say, "I guess you look close enough". Not with today's level of threat.

That guard is the base's first line of defense. Thank God, that guard is taking his job seriously enough to keep your husband alive.

It is warranted for them to make you get a new ID. It's a shame you can't stay with just ONE hair color (find one and pick it). The guards are there to protect the base and if your ID doesn't match your current appearance then there's enough cause for them to believe you're not who you say you are.

Just stick with one hair color or use wigs.

I don't guess the concept of base security ever crossed that ego-maniacal pile of vanity you call a brain. Boo freaking hoo just because you can't decide what to do with your hair these professionals are mentally retarded. What an ego!! I bet you are real popular at the ID desk.

"And boo hoo it takes literally all day (2-3 hours) to get my new ID" Gee it must be nice to only have a 2-3 hour day to worry about. I guess the rest of the 24 hour cycle is dedicated to Oprah, bon-bons, and decompressing.

Hows it feel to be verbally lashed?

Hey, now here's an idea. Keep one hair color until hubby transfers. Oh yeah that would interfere with the princess's busy 3 hour day and her god given right to be trailer trash.

This is a MILITARY base, right? They are REQUIRED to check ID's, and NOTICE if something does not add up.

If a dark skinned Arabian man drove up with a ID that shows a white guy named "Todd Smith" on it, would you want them to pass him through too???

I DARE you to just ASK the guards if they are "Mentally retarded or what".......

YOUR ID PORTRAYS WHOM YOU ARE.

YOUR CAMELLION LIKE CHANGES, ARE NOTICED AND ONE HAS TO IDENTIFY WHOM YOU REALLY ARE.

I WORKED AT AN ENTRY TO A FT (MP). SOME WOMEN CAN CHANGE HAIR COLOR ETC AND IF THAT PERSON IS A REGULAR DAILY YOU NOTICE THE CHANGES. SOMETIMES STOP TO ENSURE NATIONAL SECURITY IS NOT BEING VIOLATED.

YOU SAY COME HOME? SO YOU HAVE NOT BEEN A REGULAR AND THUS ARE OPEN TO SCRUTINY BY THE MP'S. REMEMBER YOU HAVE ALSO GROWN FROM A CHILD TO A WOMAN, CHANGED HAIR COLOR, CUT IT SHORT? YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR APPEARANCE HAVE TO BE CARDED TO BE ALLOWED BACK HOME. THANK GOD THESE MP'S ARE ALERT AND DOING THEIR JOB.

1) You live on a military base. They are going to be somewhat strict about security there. Live with it, or move somewhere where you have to pay for housing.

2) Don't cast aspersions about other people's mental capacities when you can' t spell the word GUARD.

When I stand 12 hour shifts, working 'gate duty', wearing a kevlar helmet and vest, m16, and gun belt, it always such a pleasure to get people like you coming through. And it's always the civilians that b*tch the most about us doing our job. If you alter your appearance (which includes your hair), then you need to get a new ID. It's a pretty simple thing.
