You're looking at at least 8 weeks, although I have had clients get lucky on a very SIMPLE amendment with nothing really questionable (althought they have the innate ability to FIND questionable issues where there aren't any). They got their refund in 7 weeks from filing. I have another couple who filed an amendment and has now been fighting with the IRS for 9 months - over being able to claim their own child, who lived with them, and who they supported, on the return. Sometimes what seems obvious isn't to the IRS. So, be patient, spend your time answering some good Y!A questions, and be pleasantly surprised when your refind arrives - it is likely to have interest applied, so don't be shocked if you get more than you're expecting. (Don't forget that the interest is taxable next year, too)

The process is that the amended return gets input to the computer and has to be processed and kick out a form to pull the original from the archives that are in another city or even another state then someone has to look at the original and amended returns to make sure the numbers line up and finally input the adjustment. Two months would be speedy.

Your refund will include interest. It will be taxable.

enable 3 to 4 months for processing, in case you enclosed a replica of the HUD-a million settlement sheet and as much as 5 months in case you probably did not. The WMR web site does not music amended returns. Wait 3 months after the date which you mailed the amended return before calling the IRS. they gained't have any prestige before then.

8 to 12 weeks, typically. Longer if the IRS has any questions.

It'll take at least a couple months after you file, and could take longer if they are questioning anything.
