i've been on prozac for the past few years, all major complications i had to the medicine worked itself out. as far as lithium i've only been on since march.

suddenly, for about the last three-four weeks i've had insane itching feet. there is no rash or anthing, it jus itches like crazy. and now my hands are doing the same things. i was wonder if this could be a side effect of the medication?

itching and rash is one of the more nonspecific symptoms people have. While it is certainly possible it is related to the medication, it could be related instead to any number of other things--contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, environmental or food allergies, etc, etc, etc.

One reason to believe it may be related to lithium is that lithium does tend to cause dry skin as a side effect. While it would NOT be expected to do so all of a sudden without a change in your body's level, during the summer months, some people need to have their dosages checked and adjusted, since the body loses fluid more rapidly during the warm summer months.

On the other hand, the dry skin from lithium tends not to affect only one part of the body, and it is past summer into autumn now. There is no reason to think it is related to the prozac if you have not had any dose changes, and there are no specific interactions between the two.

In short, while it could be related to the lithium, and it certainly worth talking to your doctor about, the odds that it is related are quite low, and you should be looking for other potential causes while waiting to talk to your doctor.

As always, discuss these and any questions with your doctor.
