Once I told some of my classmates that I'm going to be celibate for the rest of my life so I can focus better on God... and they all frieked out... saying That's not natural, You wouldn't be able to go through with it... blah blah blah... I told them That's what separates humans from animals, we don't have to follow every instinct we have, not only in sexuality, but other things as well.

No matter how I try to explain it to them, they still don't get it.

For at least 300 years, people in the West have used reductionist analogies to interpret human thinking and behavior, whether they compared to a machines, animals, or now computer programing. What you say is of course true, there is a radical break between the most advanced animals and human cognition, especially in terms of mental representations, abstractions, and linguistic capabilities. For example, there is no evidence that animals comprehend semiotic relationships as we do. Many species of animals do have sophisticated means of communicating with each other, such as dolphins, but these means are not inherently abstract as discursive communication is.

There is an impassable chasm between animal and man - between the highest form of animal and the lowest form of human life. The most intelligent ape is still an animal. Evolutionists have "imagineered" a type of creature through which an ape passes to become man. Accordingly, the "missing link." Evolutionists are bent on reducing man to animal, but Christ links man to God. (II Peter 1:4, I Jno. 3:1-2)

Yeah, however, some people who think that humans are higher than animals use that as an excuse to abuse them and the environment.

That doesn't mean I agree with humans being on the same level as animals though.

God gave man dominance over the rest of creation, but that power came with responsbility. Many disasters, from tsunamis to landslides, are the result of man's abuse towards God's creation. The extinction of various animals gave rise to the populations of pests that these extinct animals preyed upon.

Those consequences are proof that man should care for the animals and the environment.

We are different in terms of our cognitive abilities -- the result of the hyperdevelopment of the top layers of our brain.

But otherwise? Pretty much identical to other mammals.

(And I'm curious how you know that other animals with large cerebral cortexes, such as dolphins, do NOT understand mathmatics or have a system of worship of a Higher Power.)

If we're not animals, then what on earth are we?
Chimpanzees are also conscious of reality and they recognise themselves in the mirror. Scientists also believe they know they are going to die one day. They're animals and their intelligence is high.

All living organisms are either animals or plant. I can assure you that humans are not plants.

Plant cells have cell walls. Animal cells don't.

Look around at the environment. Witness what believing we are set apart from nature has gotten us. We aren't even the dominant species.
