The answer is both, plus more; manner of speech, attitude, style of dressing. Then you have the wanna be gangstas, kinda like ghetto plus. You seem intelligent enough not to have to hang out with friends who want to stagnant instead of moving froward with their life and growing up like a normal person. Anyone who thinks being a gangsta, a gang member, or something else they really aren't has a lot of growing up to do. Ever seen a 40 year old gansta? They're all dead or in prison, that's why they aren't around

When people dress up a crappy old car with wheels worth more than the stereo that is worth more than the paint job, much less the actual car, etc., that is ghetto. When someone talks like they have never been schooled in the Queen's English, (who dat?) that is ghetto. The big chains, silver or gold on the teef, braids in the hair, pants hanging down the butt, those are dead giveaways of ghetto.

The way they dress, if she dresses with baggy 'Gangster' clothes, chain's, that cocky attitude, then yes she would be considered 'Ghetto'. Alot of ppl think 'Ghetto' is rap an r&b, but it's not. That's what we call 'Urban'. Just because she curses ppl out doesn't mean she is 'Ghetto'. Everybody curses in Life, doesn't make you a 'Ghetto' person at all.

My dad and I were photocopying pages (income-tax stuff, I believe) on a drugstore photocopier. A woman behind us glared at us as if we were deliberately impeding her progress and ruining her life. I was all for letting her go ahead of us (and finishing the rest after she had gone away); Dad insisted on finishing the task and said later that I had the right to finish what I had started (I think he mentioned some time limit, and we had been well within that). I said something about how I would just as soon have let her go ahead just so she would go away and added that it if I had, then it would have made her strategy successful in the small picture of getting her way in this one instance "but if you act ghetto, then people will treat you ghetto all your life."

i don't understand why ghetto progressed maximum of meanings. yet i think of the reason that's conjoined with particular black people is with the help of the fact blacks have embraced that word. Now that ghetto has extra meaning than in straightforward terms a low earnings section, meanings that style around detrimental aspects like ignorant character, or ignorant naming(giving people names without meaning), that's now offensive to blacks. i did not understand names could desire to be ghetto. i'm guessing many blacks with strange names that advise not something who come from like ghettos or hoods, that occasion is now a ghetto way of naming somebody. i don't understand, in straightforward terms a wager. some people in spite of the fact that have nicknames so it is not as undesirable as people who're truly named Ethnically challenged names, semi whack names that belong to issues (Peaches, apple) or names without meaning.

Well society turns it into a fashion statement. (>.<) ghetto derives from the shames of Poland where they would pick up Jews to bring them to the concentration camps. (-_-) That's how I see it. Or it can be "ghetto" as in Akon's song (a rather good one next to mr. lonely) Ghetto like in NYC//im from NY..WOOT.
i dont think one should use that word to refer to someone though.
just my opinion.
you never know who has lived in a ghetto and what hardships they've lived in them.
