Deuteronomy 13

1. If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2. And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3. Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
5. And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

Remember, God gave them these verses before Jesus came along:

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

1 Samuel 15:29
He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind."

Basically, anyone that told them to do anything contradictory to his word was not to be believed, regardless of miracles, signs, and wonders. Telling Jews it's okay to eat whatever they want is going directly against their god's word. So is telling them that no one gets to God except through him.

This isn't meant to incite riots, just to help you consider the perspective of others that believe in the god of Israel.

He was either God or a complete Heretic. I agree with you, it is very hard to reason past this. Moses' said there would be another like him as well, but then there is a reference in Isaiah's writings that says that the Anointed would be called Everlasting Father. Jews have always believed that God was a Father to them in a sense, but not that they were themselves gods. That is why they went to stone Jesus.

Joh 10:30 I and My Father are one."
Joh 10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
Joh 10:32 Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?"
Joh 10:33 The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."

Obviously they were aware he was calling himself God. Also it is clear that they wanted to stone him rightfully if he was not God:

Lev 24:16 And whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall be put to death.

If I were to live back then, I would also have been guilty of the cross. All fall short of the glory of God.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

I thank you for these verses, the Torah really rebukes fake prophets and warns anyone who follows them. Christians have gone astray and when worshipping their messiah as god doesn't makes things better for them. Idolatry is the greatest of all sins. That was also the message of our prophet Moshe and realized even in the Generation of Noah. Noah was not a Jew but he was considered righteous because he hated idolatry.

Your getting a freaking star for this one.

That was great.

You could also add. Ezekiel 28:2

"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre: So said the Lord God: Because your heart is proud, and you said, 'I am a god, I have sat in a seat of God, in the heart of the seas,' but you are a man and not a god, yet you have made your heart like the heart of God.

It shows the biblical reaction to someone calling themselves divine.

maybe I'd listen more to what He's about to say, because I would want to know the cautions I must take to avoid false prophets, and at the same time, I will check for myself if Jesus Himself is credible by watching every action He makes. I'm not the kind of person who dismisses things easily.

that is if I was a Jew during Jesus' time.

The OT gives plenty of information about who the Messiah would be, where He would be born, how He would be born, what He would do when He was a grown man, what would happen to Him, when He would be born, and many other signs so that the honest seeker after God would not mistake Him when He came.

Unfortunately, the religious leaders were not honest seekers after righteousness. Consider their closed mindedness to the teachings of John the Baptist whose job it was to prepare the way of the Lord. Consider how corrupt they were using the temple to exchange money. Consider how they treated their fellow man and acted "holier than thou". They were not prepared to accept the Messiah and when He came, they knew Him not. Had they been honest seekers after righteousness, they would have had not trouble accepting the Lord of Righteousness.

Much the same way, people today are not seeking after righteousness and will not be prepared to meet Jesus when He comes back again.

But Jesus didn't tell them to worship a different god, he just said that he was the son of the god they already worshiped.

These Scriptures point to someone who tells them to worship another God but the God of Israel. Jesus was inspiring them to worship the same God but with their hearts and not withTHEIR nonstop words and laws from lips only. They just were full of pride and did not want anyone to tell them they weren't the religious stars that they thought they were

I would react the same way that the Romans reacted. The main problem was that they were calling him, "King of the Jews," and that just didn't fly back then.
