Have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel.
The fuel pressure drops at times to zero and will get a "dead pedal" where it won't accelerate. Replaced the lift pump and that didn't work.
Happens sometimes when it rains, but I don't know if that is what is causing it since it isn't always raining when it happens.
Any thoughts as to what it could be?

Installed a manual pressure gauge to check for changes in the pressure.

did you check the injector pump? alot of times when the transfer pump (lift pump) goes bad it starves injector pump out and that has to be replaced to. but with the rain i just dont know. if it were a gas engine i would say plug wires but since it isnt i just dont know. i have seen a lot of injector pumps though, and are you changing your fuel filter every 12-17 k?

where are you measuring your fuel pressure? before or after the filter? measure in both places. you could have an electical problem to the pump, or you could have an air leak between the tank strainer and the transfer pump. if you lose pressure after the filter but not before, abviously relplace the filter, but also check for obstructions in the lines and filter housing. i wouldn't recommend driving the truck like this. staving the vp44 pump of fuel is the best way to destroy them. starving them of fuel will destroy them easier than using a sledge hammer. i have seen many trucks with a failed transfer pump that runed into a $3000 job to replace the transfer and injector pumps, because the owner just kept driving. i've had 3 of these cases in a couple months. if the pump has been starved you will lose throttle response intermittently too. get it to a cummins shop or a delaer immediately, and baby it there or tow it. cross your fingers, good luck.

How do you know the FP is dropping? If you are measuring it check the fuel pressure regulator too. Also, it could be the fuel pump relay which may be effected more so in the rain. Also, visually inspect the lines and make sure nothing is pinching them. GL.

Dodge has had so many problems with lift pumps from day one till they finally come out with a pump that goes directly into the tank like the gas trucks. This should solve you're problem.

the only thing i know of that would cause that on that vehicle would be the relay switch for it,if its not sealed and is drawing moisture, that will cause this to happen,if it only does it when it rains then that's a good indication it is the relay unit for it,good luck with it.
