My 3 month old cat has tapeworm and I just recently bought tapeworm pills online, Tradewinds. I know everyone says they do not work but I've heard different so don't tell me they will not work. Anyways, I crushed up a half a pill in tuna (it says 4 pounds and under 1/2 tablet) but she noticed it was in there..she ate maybe a bite. I finally decided to give her a half of a half by just putting it in her mouth. She swallowed it. Will this still get rid of the tapeworms? If not, when can I give her another dose?

I am going to take her to the vet but I want to get rid of these tapworms first because when they perscribe the Droncit its too much money and I already have to get her shots and everything else. So just tell me when its safe to give another dose. I dont want to give it to her too soon.

When I first got her I gave her roundworm pills so she doesn't have round worms. She deff has tapeworms little rice like segments on her behind. I read all about it on the internet thats how I found out what she had.

praziquantel is the same thing as droncit, so as long as it's from a reputable on-line dealer you should be fine. there are different types of tapeworms, so while one dose is generally fine, it may take 2 if your cat has the right (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) type of tapeworm. if it's the other kind, it is given once a day for two days (same time each day). this drug has a wide margin for safety, so giving it 2 days in a row won't hurt the cat if it's not needed.

as for fleas, the cat had to get the tapes from somewhere. tapeworm larvae need fleas to switch to the next lifeform, and the #1 reason animals get tapeworms is by eating a flea or by eating a smaller animal (like a mouse) that has fleas. it's not transmitted like other parasites thru contact with poo. it may be that a flea came in with you from the yard or jumped thru a screen door - your cat was just unlucky enough to find it and eat it. but where there was one, there are usually more. get a good flea preventative to keep your cat tapeworm-free.

I've never heard of Tradewinds, but if the ingredient was praziquantel, it will work just fine. You don't have to repeat a dose of tapeworm medicine as one dose kills them all. Just deworm her again if you see tapes again. They can become reinfected in as little as 3-4 weeks, from ingesting fleas. Good flea control like using Advantage will eliminate fleas and thus the tapeworms they carry.

It should be fine, I would maybe redose her in 10 days. And do not crush in food that never works, cats are way to smart for that. If you want to be tricky get yourself a small jar of chicken or turkey baby food. Chill it in the fridge to make it thicker and then cut your pills in 1/4's and cover the pill entirely with the canned meat baby food and poke it in her mouth. You may try this first without a pill just a ball of the baby food. Then she will be more trusting.

I use Tradewind all the time it will work same med as the vets use.

If there's no chance your cat has fleas there's no chance it has tapeworms. Tapeworms get inside cats after they injest a flea containing the tapeworm larvae. This could be a different type of worm that the medicine you've given it won't even kill. And if that's the case, then you've wasted money that you instead could have used by going to the vet - which is what you should have done in the first place.

What makes your sure she has tape-worms, have you seen the segments? If she needs a half tablet, you will need to give the rest of it to have the desired effect. It would probably be worth while treating her for roundworms as well - I'm not familiar with the product you use, it could be simpler to get the vet to give her a broad spectrum wormer which does all the internal parasites they can have
