I am looking to visit California, and want to hit all of the beaches, and do some some site seeing. I would like to find a hotel around the price of $100-150 per night.

I visited LA recently and there plenty of hotels around the airport that may be in your budget such as the Radisson, Sheraton Gateway ,the Crowne Plaza and lots more to choose from. All these hotels are just a few blocks away from LAX airport. As far as sightseeing, you should contact VIP Tours and Charters on the web.
When I was there, I did the Grand tour of LA and saw Hollywood(looks kind of run down though) I saw the Sunset Strip, Venice Beach, Marina del Rey, Fisherman's Village, UCLA, Santa Monica, the Pacific Ocean, Mann's chinese theatre the Kodak Theatre, the Walk of Fame ,the Staples Center and I did the Universal Studios tour.Enjoy your vacation.

I'm actually heading down there in December, so I was in the same boat as well. I checked both Priceline and Hotwire, and found a 4 star hotel for less than $80 in the Huntington/Newport Beach area. I went ahead and booked it for my stay, and it turned out to be the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach. The pics online look pretty good. The only complaint was that everyone thought the hotel was overpriced (regularly $150-200), but for $80 a night, I'm more than pleased at the moment. The only issue I can see right now is that overnight parking for $16/night is ridiculous!

There are so many variables: Neighborhood, time of year, weekend/midweek, etc. I always refer people to the Howard Johnson Anaheim or Candy Cane Inn if they want to stay in Anaheim, or the Farmer's Daughter Hotel in the Hollywood area. Many $100 per night hotels in LA are in rotten neighborhoods, with run-down facilities. Be sure to check reviews on websites like tripadvisor and travelocity.
