I have to make a choice before November 14th because that's when the Fencing try outs start.

Pro's and Con's.

Wrestling Pro's

-I currently am taking American Jiu Jitsu (JJJ(30%), BJJ (50%), Judo(10%), TKD(5%), and JKD (5%) into one martial art) and we do grappling at least once every class, both stand up and knees.
- They have JV and Varsity.
-I would have some experience
-I'm kinda light weight and kinda tall. (127 lbs and 5'6)

Wrestling Con's
-I heard it's really hard practices, and i may not be fully commited.
- Alot of big and tough guys will be taking this seriously for college.

Fencing Pro's
- I did ONE Kendo seminar.
- Easier practices then wrestling.
- I'm quick on my feet with good hand-eye coordination.
- I've been playing lightsabers with my friends since 7th grade down, and im in 9th grade now.
- They just started the team this year

Fencing Con's
-The coach said there MAY be a try out.
-There are SOME experienced fencers where i have never done it before.
-There is ON

You basically answered your own question. If you can not fully commit then whats the point. You already have a ground game so you should do well there. Even if the practices are hard. Shoot, if it were easy everyone would join. I am not expert but I am sure that fencing and kendo are not even closely similar. You're fencing "CON" doesn't make sense bro. So what if there is a "try out". The coach it trying to build a strong team. Those experience fencers are on your team right? Then they can help you get better. Besides I am sure the coach doesn't expect Olympic level athletes You should be more worried about the other schools players. Why is it a "pro" that they just started the team? I would think that would be a disadvantage for your school. OH and being tall should help you while fencing rather than wrestling. Longer reach....

Some of the pros you listed for fencing will hurt your game, not help it. Nothing from kendo will help, aside from a sense of timing. The techniques are completely different. And the lightsabre thing is also bad. You would not try to learn how to fight from watching "West Side Story". Fencing is a very precise and focused sport where the slightest of movements (usually from the wrist) determine victory.

Your background suggests that you would do very well in wrestling, but the real question is, "What sport would you most enjoy competing in?" Just because you have a strong background in one doesn't mean you could not find joy in the other. With desire, you will excel in either.

You know most wrestling programs accept you later into the season until Christmas break starts. Reason being so many people who wanted to try out for Basketball didn't make it, and then go out for wrestling to stay in shape for next years try outs. Very tough practices at wrestling, matter of fact, you at times may want to just drop dead to make the pain go away, and thats how I felt 2 hours after I got home from a rough day.

Fencing is good. Obviously you picked a biased place to ask, a martial arts forum. But Bruce Lee's very adaptable and quick, stable footwork was attributed to fencing. You learn to counter an opponents attack with an attack of your own (intercepting the path), rather then blocking and then counter attacking.

Both will have their advantages. I myself am a wrestler but thats the unbiased opinion right there.

If you're decent with the grappling you picked up from AJJ, you could dominate your weight division in wrestling. Not to take away from fencing, because personally that's what I'd choose (I do jujutsu, but I still don't like being on the ground).

That's the breakdown of your AJJ class? Seems kinda weird... especially the 50% BJJ part.

Just think of it this way, do you wanna improve your strength and stamina or footwork and reflex? If strength and stamina is your goal, take up wrestling. But if you wanna improve your footwork and reflex then try fencing. Either way, you improve something about yourself, just as long as you don't think one style's gonna make you invincible over the other, either one will be a great contribution to your overall self defense skills.

I'd go with Fencing. It's not like you don't already have a "ground game," so the sutff you pick up in Fencing might be more useful for you now. (ie. if you pick up a stick to hit someone with)
