There are lots of movies, especially horror movies, that take things like hell and devils and demons. And though those aren't special to Christianity, you KNOW that's the hell they are talking about. Like Little Nicky, Constantine, The Ninth Gate....so is Christianity good for the media?

Teresa....your dissertation makes no sense at all. Are all boring documentaries related to atheism?

and yeah I know that the bible doesn't say anything on hell really, just that it's down and dark..like free-falling forever. Which begs the question of why do so many people say you will burn in hell. There was never any mention of fire.

I liked Bruce Almighty, and the other day I watched The Reaping.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that Christianity is good for the media but it's definitely something people make money off of.

I agree with your premise, but not your conclusion (that Christianity is good for the media). The one doesn't flow from the other; just look at some old movies and the hoops they had to jump through to appease the (largely Catholic) Censorship Board. But the archetypes of Christian mythology are fertile ground for the imagination nonetheless...
Peace to you.

There are mythologies from other countries and other eras, etc etc. Even Christianity is made up of earlier ones, non-Christian ones - and it is even said that Jesus was a figure from earlier times.
Anyway we would have other and probably more interesting and varied mythologies within movies, if the Christian ones were not present.

The common concept of "hell" is NOT true Christian theology. This concept comes from Greek mythology, Greek philosophy(dualism) and the Dark Ages.

If it weren't for Christian Reality we wouldn't have the Mythology going on that wee little humans can defeat all these demons just by their own "smarts". The horror movies are hilarious. And dangerous all at the same time.
Only the Name of Jesus prevails over the hosts of hell.

We also wouldn't have alot of crappy movies like Little Nicky, Michael, Angels in the Outfield, etc...
It isn't as if Christianity has a patent on any of the themse of those movies, might as well claim Mormons have the exclusive on extra wives.

absolutely. some of my favorite artwork is catholic. (mostly from past centuries) it's a really beautiful mythology at times, too, once you become jaded to some of the obvious plot-holes and weaknesses.
it's such a tragic genre; these people actually believed what the church was telling them... what horror! there is real emotion in that art. modern movies definitely benefit from the rich tapestry of ideas.

That is a point I guess. What would Dracula be with out him flinching at the cross...And the Exorcist. Now if you could just look a bit deeper you might find even more Christianity is good for.
